Another keyboard thread I know...

Backstory: Brother used my Microsoft Comfort Curve 4000 over the weekend, I come home, and 5 keys no longer work (z,x,c,v and enter)

Anyway, I was already thinking of getting a gaming keyboard, and I've done some research before online, but I hate not knowing how the keyboard will actually perform (Wish I could try them all out...)

So, I'd like to hear anybody's experience with the following boards:

Eclipse III

https://i.testfreaks.fr/images/products/600x400/119/logitech-g11-gaming-keyboard.71543.jpg
G11

Microsoft Reclusa

Razer Lycosa

Logitechs 'Illuminated Keyboard'

You might have noticed, I like the blue backlighting, so G15 is out of the question (Unless they got a new blue backlit one) G19 is pretty sweet, but I'm not shelling out $200 for a keyboard

I also considered a Sidewinder X6, which I originally thought was cool, but heard there are key pressing issues, and it only came with orange backlight also, afaik.

So, what can you guys tell me about the above boards? I'm really considering the Eclipse III, I like the colors, the buttons on the side and the backlit Eclipse logo a lot, but I don't know a thing about its functionality or how it will perform. If anybody can speak for the Eclipse III, or any others please do.

G15 v1 if you can manage it, G11 still a good choice. 18 macro keys for the intense win.

I don't like the silver on the G11, can that part be removed? If so, I could easily paint it black. If not, I'd have to mask around the shit and paint it...

What is the width on the G11, 21 inches? I know the Eclipse III is 21 inches. I might have a problem with that fitting on my desk

Get a keyboard that can register as many simultaneous keystrokes as you find yourself using.

If you get the Lycosa, don't get the "mirror" edition. I bought it thinking it would be all shiny and awesome, turns out it just has a layer of plastic on top that gets smudged easily and looks friggin ugly.

i know thats what i thought. But it has a white backlight, and I think it might end up being a little bright. Also, the gaming keyboards I know allow simultaneous key presses, where as that logitech one...I'm not sure, it looks smaller then the gaming ones though, so I'll have plenty of desk space if I went with it... I dunno lol

you outta find that thread where everyone was doing the simultanious keys press test to see which keyboards rule

It can be removed completely, though it's one of the last steps you can take in completely tearing down the board. You can do it, but it'll take a bit of time and finicking with ribbon cables to do. It's not open heart surgery but you can certainly wreck the board if you go about slamming a phillips around the inside.

Edit: When this keyboard dies, I plan on picking up an ABS M1 or a Das Keyboard. You may want the extra features that the newer boards provide but after using some Model M's I'm in love with mechanical boards. They may not appeal to you, but are certainly worth checking out.

I would personally recommend an Eclipse board. My little brother had an Eclipse I last I knew (haven't been home in over a year) and it was a great keyboard. I loved the hell out of it. Woulda bought one for myself, but couldn't justify the price at the time (though the Eclipse line of keyboards are pretty affordable compared to the offerings from Logitech).

My question to you: do you really need macro keys like on the G-series? If not ...

Razer Tarantula, best keybord going, if you dont want backlit keys but do want nice lights elsewhere (Lycosa is a bit cheap and nasty, not like normal Razer at all).

Go with the Razer of the G15.
The logitech illuminated keyboard is bad, the key action is really weird.
The microsoft Reclusa is just. . . weird. I dunno, just don't like it.

The eclipse 3 looks awesome, but I didn't really see any improvement between eclipse 1 and 2, so don't know how much you'll see in the third.

Bad things about the Reclusa.

I had this issue a few months back. I went with the Microsoft Sidewinder X6.

Was a damn good decision.

Logitechs 'Illuminated Keyboard'

it looks cool but its supposed to suck as a keyboard for gamers, i read some article about it

Razer Lycosa

i have it myself, it has no extra buttons, and the keys are not so silent and comfortable as they advertise them, also no mute button = fail

Microsoft Reclusa

old, cannot turn off the illumination, also no mute, dont get it

G11

keys like from a 10 year old keyboard, but it still has the 2nd place on this list imo

Eclipse III

win. get it nao

Please elaborate. Because money is better spent elsewhere, or you can customize your own keyboard with macro keys if that's what you are into.
