FUCK this shit I give up!
PB has been a total bitch for the last a couple of weeks. Everytime I attempt to join a server, i get kicked after a minute because Pnkbstr B failed to initialize. After a quick seach in here i found a guide about how to fix this ( reinstall pb) and it worked. For a day. If i wanted to play, i would have to repeat this process of uninstall-reinstall-manual initialization. Coped with it for 10 days, but now the install is not working.
what do i do?

Here are some things to check:

* Run pbsetup to manually update punkbuster (you probably already did, but here's the link anyway): http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

* Make sure the punkbusterA and B services run when your computer starts. Go to Start/Run and type services.msc. Find the punkbuster services and set them both to Automatic. Yes, automatic.

* Disable any firewall, including the Windows firewall.

If you have to reinstall, do so by mounting disk images from your hard drive. It goes much faster than using the actual disks. Make sure you copy your controls.con before reinstalling. You should keep images of your BF2 disks on your hard drive as a backup as well as for quick reinstallation. Alcohol 120% makes images that function as well as the original CDs.

i have done all the above except the reinstall. Ill try it tommorow. Im not that optimistic though.

This is actually not bad advice...for now.

I had the same problem, and I tried every fix I could possibly find on the internet. None of them worked! I know its a bitch to not play BF2, but I just waited it out and the problem fixed and went back to normal in about 1-2 weeks time. Hang in there!

i have done all the above except the reinstall. Ill try it tommorow. Im not that optimistic though.

When you get kicked is the PnkBstrB service stopped or disabled? I use a batch file that starts the services every time I start up BF2.

I've never tried to install pb except as part of installing BF2, so I have no clue what's going on there.

Run the game as admin if you havn't already tried.

If nothing works, you should really just reinstall the game then update PB manually.
