I beg to differ, having two 640 is better IMO.

1. Possibility to RAID them
2. One fails, you only lose half your data (or all if RAID0 or none if RAID1)
3. Better for dual booting

RAID is shit tbh, I had raid 0 on two 80gb drives, one failed, the other failed, 2 bricks sitting on my desk now...

elite, RAID 0 is shit. Should have put it in a RAID 1 array then you never would have lost all your data ... really your fault, tbh.

It's better for dual booting because sometimes when you install two OSs on the same disk, you run across errors in the file system. So you could have, say, Windows on one disk and then OSX or a Linux distro on the other. Then no problems with file system clashes.

You just keep digging yourself a deeper hole...

CDs and DVD's are practically redundant nowadays when hard drives, which can hold many times the amount of information, are just as good for backing up important data.

If you had several hundred GB of stuff to back up, I doubt you'd be using disks

I was making a point - just back your stuff up onto another form of media, such as cd's... External drives, other computers etc. If you have raid 1, and your computer magically gets doused in rubbing alcohol, you are still fucked... =/
