Hi. I have Vista 64 and i would like to know if i can fix my 2 problems with it:

Problem with stand by - okay, technically its working in a way, i can make my pc 'sleep and wake up ', but while being in standby the fans keep on blowing and glowing... PC looks like if it is still working It shouldnt be that way amirite? Why my fans dont turn off when standby? Can i fix it?

Problem with hibernation - it takes long as FFFFUUU- to hibernate and unhibernate. It drives me mad. I am using hibernation all the time. On my dads pc which is amd duron + 256ram (windows xp) hibernations last just a few seconds. On my PC it takes almost minutes :E Is it because i have 4GB ram? Or because of vista? Any tricks to make hibernation faster / or perhaps some microsoft  update? halp

Have you overclocked? You might have disabled some option in the BIOS to stop fans when the CPU is idling.

don't know about the 2nd problem, but the 1st problem is related to a BIOS setting.  you want S3 sleep mode as opposed to S1 (or the other way around, can't remember).

as for the hibernation issue, how fragmented is the drive?

1: Set your BIOS to S3 sleep instead of S1

2: You have to write / read 4GB to your HDD. No surprise that it takes ages. Just disable hibernation and use sleep or a proper shutdown instead. You can disable hibernation with

Code:

powercfg -H off
. While you're at it defrag your disk too

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I did manual defrag about month ago + vista is auto defragging all the time so it should be a problem, i will try this S3 / S1 thing in a moment

EDIT: it worked! its still longer than on xp but who cares! i have last question - can i disable wakeing up pc by pressing keyboard / mouse buttons ?

yeah it's another option.  look for something like "enable resume through USB peripherals" or something like that and turn it off.
