Okay, well in my computer there's a 250GB SATA drive and an 80GB IDE drive that I had before I bought the sata one. I dumped most of the stuff from that onto my new drive, so it was sitting there doing nothing with about 40GB free, and just some random programs and an OS on it. So I decided to format it so I could get the full use of the 80GB (or 74.4GB if you want to be pedantic).

It wouldn't format through windows, so I stuck my Vista installation disc in, booted from that, and wiped it that way. Only thing is, now, that my computer can't boot from the Vista install on my 250GB drive. I've never been able to boot from that one alone, I always had to have one of my IDE drives in with it, but it'd always boot into the SATA drive.

The error I'm getting is "Invalid System Disc - Enter system disc and press any key" or words to that effect.

I'm completely clueless, I've tried swapping jumpers around on the IDE drive, been messing with the BIOS for a good half hour, but I'm stumped. I'm going to go put my other IDE drive that has Windows 7 on it to see if I can at least boot into some kinda windows.

Boot into the Vista DVD. Enter recovery mode and start a command line. Type bootrec.exe /fixmbr and reboot
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Didn't work. I typed in "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" and a half second later said operation complete..

When I clicked "Load Drivers", because no instalation of Vista came up, in the "Computer" section there was only the IDE drive, it's as if the SATA one isn't being recognised.

Try using different SATA port on the mobo, do that until it boots. Or go to BIOS and set the primary boot HDD to the sata one like the new mobos allow you to do.

I've got 4 SATA ports on my mobo, one's master and the other three are slave. I've tried them all.
I was looking for such a setting in the BIOS, but I couldn't find it..

Two seconds, I'll find a PDF of my BIOS, see if you can find it.

There's no such thing as master and slave when it comes to sata

Well one port was sitting on its own and when I plugged it into that, upon booting it said "IDE Channel 0 Master - Hitatchi 250GB etc etc". instead of "IDE Channel 1 Slave - Hitatchi 250GB etc etc"..

Why would plugging the SATA cable into a different port change the IDE's settings?

Sounds like you're missing something really basic.

When booting up, keep hammering F12 (Might be different on your MoBo) until you get into the Boot Menu. Choose your Sata drive, remembering it's name, and if it boots, restart and make sure that drive has boot priority in the BIOS.

If all else fails, reset the CMOS and restart with just the SATA drive.

Okay, I'm in Windows 7.

SATA drive is connected and identified..

When I was in the boot menu the SATA drive didn't boot. Gave me the same error as before. I'm thinking of backing up stuff I wanna keep and just reformatting it.. good idea?

It will do the job, it's just annoying to do.
