Trying to install Vista on my recently formatted hard-drive, and I'm getting the error "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation."

Not a clue what that means, so, help?

quick format really should be fine.  make sure you formatted it under the NTFS file structure

Yeah, you can only reformat under NTFS.
you can format under FAT and FAT32 too.  but i digress, and give up.

Not with this drive in this windows on this computer.

Drop down list only gives NTFS..

I'll give you the low-down after disk checking is done.. maybe you'll have some thoughts then.

ah i see.  anyway, a quick google turns up that the partition it's going to be installed on has to be the active one.  someone mentioned using hiren's boot CD to setting the correct active partition, then installing vista.

edit: also suggested is that the HD is the first boot up device, with CD drive being second.

No errors from checkdick, how do I determine if the drive is seen in the bios?

EDIT: When I boot select it can see it there, does that count?

it has to be first on the list.  generally you rearrange the list with the page up/page down keys.

No.

The only difference is that quick skips the chckdsk, which isn't really necessary to run unless you have hard drive problems.
