UPS brought me a box last Friday:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9219.jpg

came with some goodies for my Integra
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9222.jpg

AEM Wide Band o2 sensor and some ARP head studs so I can run more boost!

Figured it was time to clean under the hood
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9224.jpg

After I finished cleaning the underside of the hood disassembly began:

https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9174.jpg

An organized mess:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9240.jpg

Got the head off without much resistance:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9230.jpg

Then i broke something and was like https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/uhoh.gif :
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9241.jpg

Turns out it's a vacuum actuator that works with the secondary butterflies that I have disabled (tuned to always be open) since the car is turbo'd so I JB welded it back together and called it good.

The block and head look mint for having 200,000 miles on them!
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9230.jpg
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9267.jpg

The head gasket on the other hand is beat:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9268.jpg
3 of the 4 cylinders were leaking compression into the water jackets under boost
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9269E.jpg

Got the ARP head studs in:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9252.jpg
ARP's with new head gasket:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9262.jpg

Time to put it back together

Me torquing the head back down:

Setting up the timing belt:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9285e.jpg

Just a few of the wires and hoses I had to put back:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9281.jpg

All finished:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9291.jpg

No pics of the wide band being installed but here are finished pics:

The sensor:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9293.jpg

New bung welded on the down pipe for it:
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9294.jpg

Gauge
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9296.jpg

Getting crafty with the 5-year old point&shoot camera
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9298.jpg

All wired up!
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t155/VSRperformance/DSCF9299.jpg

FYI:  Wideband tells you the exact air/fuel ratio your engine is seeing and it also offers data logging for tuning purposes...very nice to have when you are running a boosted engine.

That was my weekend.

Next step is to drive it 2,000 miles back home to Washington State when i'm done working here in Texas...turn up the boost and go for 350whp on 92 octane pump gas

350 whp? Nice. And I presum you haven't touched the tranny? It's a manual, you might need to redo the clutch after that!!!

Nice work. How long did it take you to get the engine in and out?

Can u come over and help fix my car plz, kthnx

I had a '92 2-door accord EX which I reallllly liked. But I opted for my '84 BMW 533i that was black on black, I've regretted that decision a few times. But my bimmer is pretty awsome.

Also, I lol'd at ur gif

350whp is my self made limit with 92octane pump gas.  After that goal is reached I may convert over to E85 since it's octane level is close to race gas (111-115) and is cheap enough to use every day and then shoot for 425whp.

Transmission is stock with 234,000original miles,  the clutch is upgraded with a Gripforce 6-puck and pressure plate with stock flywheel,  it's rated at 325wtq,  and since Honda's don't make much torque it should be good up to my 400ish whp goal since most GSR engines make about 300wtq when they reach 400-425whp.

I didn't take the whole thing out, just the top half.  It took me 6 hours total of actual working time but I stretched it over a whole day.

I did swap the whole engine in the car about a year ago and that took a full day with the help of 2 friends.   That involved taking the old engine out of my car, taking the donor engine out of my brother's wrecked GSR and putting it in my car.

I've owned a couple 90-93 accords,  Only for a few weeks at a time because I bought them to fix up and sell. I made a hefty profit off of one and the other, because of unforeseen issues with the bottom end I barely broke even.

I have a 95 BMW 325i at home, it's the last BMW i'm going to buy.  Yeah it's very nice and drives great....when the electrical components aren't having a mind of their own fakking everything up.

I take it back....I would buy an E46 M3 SMG, that's it though....maybe an 08 M3 sedan when they come down in price, it's hard to resis their secksyness.

My problem exactly. I know I'm not getting a spark from the plugs, I checked the reference and speed sensors for proper ohms rating. I jumped the fuel pump relays, bypassed the OBC relay's I haven't even bothered with the motronic control unit...I heard though, if it gets wet, it can short out, and there might be some fuses I need to replace.

Ya, everything is electronically controlled and it's a bitch to troubleshoot. I might just pay to get it towed and have someone else work on it.

it's easy and fun, as long as you aren't getting paid to do it.

That's a job I wouldn't do, even if I know how to do it. I guess my fear for the job goes back to my friend changing the gasket himself on a MK I Golf GTi, which lead to 2 intake valves snapping and 2 being bent. I told him to turn the goddamn axle manually a full turn to check that he got the belt right. He went for the ignition, the idiot.

The only thing I do now is.. ..add oil and washer fluid. I'll change the occasional oil and brakepad if I have no choice.

95% of the job is memory:  after 10 years, i can keep track of hundreds of nuts and bolts in my head, i can remember long, specific sequences and all kinds of useless shit.

4% is knowing how to use tools safely and efficiently.

1% is knowing how to read poorly written, technical instructions.

i could rebuild your whole car with my tools at work.  at home i couldn't change your sparkplugs if i wanted to.

No, I don't really have a reason to, everything is still within spec even after all the miles.   If I end up going for my E85 hp goal I may add Integra Type-R dual valve springs and cams.

Kmarion wrote:

It's a lot easier than it looks...you just need patience.   A good model specific automotive book is great to have around...I've been working on cars since I was 16 (24 now) and I still like to have one around because every car has different tq specs for bolts and they are a nice reference.

QFT!!

I worked for a Honda dealership for 2 months then transferred to Subaru for another month...I had to quit, it was ruining my love for working on cars.  I like to go at my own pace and make it an enjoyable experience.

LOL, you always, ALWAYS manually rotate the crank at LEAST 4 complete revolutions to ensure piston-to-valve clearance!! I always check my timing at least 3 times before I try to crank the car.  The engine in my car only takes 2 or 3 teeth off time to have piston/valve contact!

The thing I was most scared of when I started working on cars was proper timing...now, it's one of the easiest things to do.

I wish I was that good with cars that I could get that deep into an engine without fucking anything up. My problem is I have a pretty old car and a lot of stuff is basically rusted in place. Of course it doesn't help that the car has been in New England it's whole life.
