Help Connecting Speakers To My iMac

Recently I bought an iMac so I can avoid traveling to London twice as much as I need to for college work. It's the basis for my home studio. I bought some new monitors, however they didn't come with leads to connect to my external interface, which sockets look like this:

Regular PA leads wouldn't fit the speakers, and tbh, I'd never seen that kind of socket before. They screw out and have a hole in the middle:

Not really having a clue what to do, I went to the local electrics shop, and was told to purchase some weird things:

I don't have a clue how to connect the speaker cable to the speakers, and even if I do get that done, how would I connect the speaker cable to the interface? Some help would really be appreciated on this, because I need to learn it, and I want to use them as soon as possible.

you really need to learn how to use autofocus.

You can't directly connect your speakers to your mac. You need an amp

It's a phone camera and I have an external interface, which connects into the mac. Thats what I meant, but I can't change the title now

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. Connecting the speaker to the wire is easy. Just remove the insulation from the wire, unscrew, stick wire in, screw in.

In the first pic I can't tell what sort of connection is used in the interface. Got a link to a manual?

guarantee your phone has a macro function for the camera ... use it ... or get an actual camera

But do what Max said. Cut the wires and remove the insulation and just stick that through the holes.

Sounds like you should have researched what you wanted to do, though, before you dropped however much money on equipment.

Cheers Max, I will do that. Is there anyway I can connect the end of the wire to a jack, to plug into the interface? Or is that not possible and I'm going to have to do this another way?

I'm sure you can somehow add a connector to the speaker wire so that you can plug it into your amp. What connector you need will be in the manual

" These outputs accept TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) or TS (Tip-Sleeve) 1/4 inch connections. "

Those connectors are normal headphone jacks. They are unpowered. You'll need an amp to drive your speakers

Hmmm. I will try it before I buy an amp, because it does phantom power to power mics that need it, so does that mean there is a chance it could power the speakers?

Those connectors deliver just enough power to drive small headphones. There's just not enough juice in them to power the speakers to any reasonable sound level
