Right, so I'm looking for a headset, my budget is around £20-40. Want to keep itas low as possible without compromising performance in that price bracket.

I will use it mostly for skype, but will be used for gaming at the same time.

I am thinking of getting the Creative HS Fatal1ty Gaming Headset (£30), but would like to know what you lot think. If there is better headsets out there for that price, was also looking at the Logitech Clearchat Pro Headset - USB (£27). Also this headset seemed to get favourable reviews, Sandberg USB Headset (£28).

Any suggestions?

Headset with mic?
DON'T DO IT
They are shit

Get a sennheiser headset and a good mic on a stand, or a clip-on for the headphone cable.

You get what you pay for. I paid £60 for my sennheisers and it was worth it.

And no, Panzer, I've never even heard of that brand.

clip-on mics are annoying, just buy "el cheapo" mic and toss it behind the monitor. I agree on the Senny part-get something comfortable

Yeah, I had a £80 pair of senns before, they were great for a year but then the sound became unbalanced, one of the phones wasnt working so well. Then I stood on then, accidentally of course.

Im not so sure about the stand alone mic, how good do they pic up your voice and wont it pic up alot of other noise?

The siberia headset does look nice, but a bit more than I budgeted for, if I dont get anymore suggestions I may look at it more seriously.

Whats wrong with the fatal1ty? I thought that was a good headset for the price.

SteelSeries Siberia: bought them after going through a logitech headset and creative audio .350's, and I am incredibly happy with my Siberia's. comfy, sturdy, great sound quality, line extender, and a very good mic.

the fatal1ty ones are the best on that list if  you're not willing to make the investment.

Friend has some extortionatly expensive Sennheiser headset, even he says my Siberias sound as good as his and everyone says my mic is clearer then his.  Siberias are the best headset for the money, you're looking at over £100 to get something superior and you probably wouldn't even notice the benefit.

qft.  white here.  it's really your choice.

i had a pair for about 2 years but someone punched me in the head so i got a new one.  they ARE sturdy, just not to being punched.  i roll over the wires all the time.  great sound and comfy too.  good ventilation.

I got an "el cheapo" mic and my clan mates yelled at me because it sounded so shitty. So I got a Logitech USB mic instead, which was a little more expensive but much better sound quality.

I reckon those Fatal1ty ones are the best you're gonna get for 30 quid. But I think I have been persuaded to go for the steelseries siberias.

The Creatives are indeed about as good as it gets in that price range. Incredible phones for the money.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

There are good ching-chong mics, and there are bad ching-chong mics. Just gotta hope you get a good one.

I went from a shitty stand mic to a less shitty clipon mic and my friend told me it's a world of difference.

What I'm saying is that sometimes the chinese manage to make really decent things. Other (most) times, the tat works just good enough to be sold.

I ended up getting the Siberias in the end, and they are great apart from one thing, the mic.

I was chatting on skype with them earlier and my mate said I sounded 'distant' compared to my old mic, but that it was still ok.

I was honestly expecting it to be better than my old temporary shit mic.

Atm i have mic boost on +20dB and mic volume on full as well as in skype and I clip it on my collar. I really dont think there is much more I can do to improve the mic volume... or is there?

I have the pc161's

the mic broke though, I've had them for like 4 years though so I mean it's kind of expected I guess... I could fix it it's just the wire.
