This might seem like a noob question (even though i've been playing for 3 years!!!) but i've always wondered how pple cheat/hack in bf2. I know you can fix the code a bit to have more accurate shots (I don't do it and its a bit of an unfair advantage but one I can live with (I just assume these fighters have 20/20 vision, unlike my 4-eyed self)) and I know some pple can hack into getting points (i could give a toss about this; once you have all the unlocks, what's the point really unless you always wanna  be commander ((lame))???) but is there any other nefarious cheats pple do in bf2? I'm really just curious because someone was accusing someone in-game of spawning by the enemies base as a hack and it seemed like a quite difficult hack to create.

I dunno, punkbuster is flawed. No fog hacks are obvious. You can see outlines of the enemy behind buildings when the player models are changed. There's minimpap hacks to see red soldiers. etc

One time someone here posted a screenshot of their latest promotion, and we all saw minimap hacks in the screenshot. That was pretty funny.

Can't do this.

I'm sure part of what hacks do is intercept and alter the messages being sent between the client and the server. Those messages probably have little to do with spawn location because the client doesn't control that.

On the other hand, information about where other players are is probably sent to the client, so a hack can reveal that by eavesdropping on the traffic being received by the client.

One thing I've noticed is mid-game I've seen "you have been killed by tktktk" when I wasn't even killed. This seems like an obvious hack.

There was a long forum on doing just this here. Can't find now of course : (

You can make changes to your audio config files I've heard, so you can hear people coming from further away. Also, you can turn off some other things like, flash damage from flash bangs, smoke grenades, and grenades afaik?

Never tried any of these, but I have messed with the settings that adjust ur ping and such, I noticed much better hit detection since doing so, I went 45-5 on Ghost Town I/O one night, some people say its a placebo effect... But I've never done that good playing solo, so I dunno.

No, as far as I'm aware, it's just a bug. No one is getting credit for the kill.

Na, just a bug in the game.

You can change some of your settings to supposedly improve your hitreg, though this has never been proven...whether it works or not, it's just a user setting that can be changed, not a hack.

If you want to see what hacks can do, go look them up on YouTube...plenty of vids there of people showing their 'skills'.
The most commonly used seem to be no-fog, minimap hacks, and most recently commander hacks/server crashing

The most common ones are minimap hacks (where your minimap/radar shows both allies and enemies), skin hacks (where enemies will show up as a bright color, making them easier for you to see...and sometimes you can even see them through walls/buildings/trees/etc), and aimbots (which sounds exactly like what they are...having your gun automatically aim at an enemy).

There are also commander hacks, which can allow a commander to drop multiple vehicles or supply crates at once, summon multiple UAVs/Sat scans, and continuously drop artillery.

I'm pretty sure you can't spawn at an enemy's spawn point as part of a hack though.  I'm assuming it was just the red tag/uniform glitch, where if a player switches teams at the wrong time, he'll still spawn wearing his old team's skin and his name will appear red, even to his teammates.  Although, I do remember a time playing Karkand where I was able to spawn at the Suburb flag no matter who controlled it.  My squad mates could do the same thing...but no one else on the server was able to.

One of the more common ways for people to "enhance" their performance is with sound config hacks. Basically you can tweak the sounds so you can hear your enemies very clearly, which means you know where they are at all times. This is also PB-proof.

"sound config hacks"

You mean, changing the the sound .con file in the >>USERSETTINGS<< part of your bf2 directory, right? You mean the same file that contains changeable settings that can be altered whilst in BF2?

Hacks.

not a hack so much as a tweak, and its heavily based on headset and sound card quality. Just as much as a cheap sound card won't pick up footsteps as well as an expensive one.

And good headset or not, its still not that easy to hear footsteps no matter how good the sound tweaks are. Depends on what surface a person is walking on greatly as well.

Well yeah, it's not a hack per se, no need to be pedantic y'all.

Doubt they can hack it, but Ive had it once or twice to me. I was MEC, US held a flag yet I could spawn there and start shooting the other team, which was kinda

I know a bit of reverse engineering so:

Nametags - Noping the jmp command that jmps when player = enemy.  (Disabling the jump so nametags appear for everyone)

Fog - Noping again

Distance - Adding to the inc

Aimbots - Not sure, has to do with identifying player strides and using math to aim at them, such as vertex's

Chams - D3D drawing

Minimap - Same as nametags

Basically, the thing that separates a hack that is creatable or not is whether the information that is being modified is server sided or client sided.  For example, you can't just memory edit the amount of point you have because it's server sided, or controlled by the server.  However, you can add name tags because they're controlled by the client, or your computer.  This is probably how EA hopes to fix commander hacks in 1.5, by putting all commander information such as artillery and UAV delays within the server.
