Ok, I am probably going to get a new computer in the next couple of months.

Should I get Vista 64-bit???

Or should I use that Windows 7 trial thing and get Windows 7 when it comes out???

I am hoping to still be able to play BF2 on this new computer, will BF2 be able to work on Windows 7 probably, or will it not be compatible???

On any somewhat-modern machine, Vista is the only choice. XP is outdated and has too big of a fanbase, 7 isn't finished yet.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

What I'm saying is that people have used XP for too long, and have grown imensly attached to it, and thus, will take every opportunity to promote it. When Vista came, it was inferior, strengthening that bond even more, but today, Vista is far superior. There is not a single thing that XP can do that Vista can't, and if you have a Core 2 Duo in your machine, Vista isn't slow. Even the slowest of C2Ds will run it just fine. I should know, I run Vista on a 1.83GHz one.

It does; its like 7 years old at this point. In 2002 would you have even dreamed of using Windows 95?

but I still use it, who cares if its old, never had issues with it like I had with Vista. In 7 years Microsoft should have the experience to make 10 times better OS not chunk of software that only got better after service pack.

Anything above 8800GTX from NVIDIA is waste on XP (you would not be able to push the newer cards much with dx9) . And HD4xxx and 3xxx cards benefit greatly from having Vista too.
That benefit multiplies when you add second GPU and go CF or SLi.

You pay lots of $$$ to get your hw. Why wouldn't you want to actually use it to full potential?

Pre-SP1 Vista is like pre-SP1 XP.

Shitty.

I'm thinking I might get a Core 2 Quad: Q9400

Or Core 2 Duo: E8400 or E8500 or E8600 (probably E8400 or E8500)

With 4 GB RAM

Cooler Master 690 w/6-7 fans

Also: Should I get HD4870 or an Nvidia card???

Listen to the tech team, get Vista x64

As for nV. vs. Ati just look at what's cheaper. Performance of a HD4870 1GB = GTX260 (192 shader version)

Why get old when you can get new?
