Exactly, +1 for you sir. (and I remember when XP first released, people bitched and stayed on 98 & 2000 for a few years before everyone finally made the switch)jsnipy wrote:

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
I will recommend Vista when someone tells me how to switch the menus and for example Control Panel to those of XP. Until then I continue to despise it.

I have no problems with Vista that I can't solve, and I am computer illiterate. So go with Vista. The only thing I hate is running games in administrator mode because it's an extra mouse click.
We have a winner. No reason to be hating Vista now DU. And happy 1k!DeathUnlimited wrote:

Stop bitching about Vista, it's fine now.

Ummm, when Intel dumped the P4 technology. And instead went back to the P3 design for the Core technology.Freezer7Pro wrote:

They never dropped development for it (P3) in the first place. P-M went on in the background all the time.Ilocano wrote:

7 is vista (no not literally). Vista was a paid beta for 7 me thinks.

XP is outdated, slow, consists of 90% patches, 9% bloat and 1% OS, insecure and the file management and networking is just a huge pain.

When is MS going to stop supporting xp. I still have a machine on it.. but it's not for awhile amrite?

I kept UAC enabled - it's stopped a worm or two. Haven't had a virus in two years, that's got to count for something. Security is just better on these new OSs. Why go with old outdated software, if you can get new and rapidly improving ones.
Even if you need to run XP exclusive software, you can still run it in Windows 7, so what's stopping you from getting the RC until you can upgrade? Been using the beta for half a year and I've had ONE BSOD - and it was my own fault for installing some random driver for my network card. Windows 7 runs faster than Vista, and probably at least as fast as XP on newer hardware...
People need to get over XP. I don't get why there is always such an adversity to change. With everything (including web design changes at last.fm or Facebook) people complain so much more than it's worth. And then when they're forced to use it, they get used to or enjoy the changes. Maybe people should be forced to use Vista (properly - for a while). I for one can no longer live without the start-menu-search or control-panel-quick-find. I don't randomly go into control panel - I'm always looking for something, so category view isn't always helpful. Anyway, my point has been above various times, I'll stop rambling now.

I would personally WAIT on building your machine, nick.
I would wait for Windows 7 or for the moment, if you must build it now, use the RC. My advice. Save the money you could spend on Vista (Why buy XP now?) and buy a copy of Win7.
OR ... if you are a student of any kind, doesn't matter what level of education, look into student software from Microsoft. If you're in the US, there is the MSDN Alliance and IIRC, they have partnerships with high schools, too. If you are at a university, though, it should be little effort to get discounted student software.

Except that's not really true. There are many developments Intel made for the P4 that made these modern designs possible. The Branch Prediction Unit on the P4 was extremely advanced (it had to be with the hyper extended pipes they used) and this technology can be seen in the Core series. Hyper Threading was P4 technology and other modern Intel processors are reliant on that, such as the i7 and the Atom. There are many other examples too.Ilocano wrote:

The P4 was not just an exercise in how not to build a CPU. It was more of a learning experience.
What should it look like then? I'm atm on my XP SP2 laptop and the Control panel and start menu looks almost identical to Vista.DeathUnlimited wrote:
