So a few hours ago I was in my room and it was kinda dark and all and I kinda stepped on my laptop's keyboard. I only stepped gently before I realized what I was stepping on. The whole computer locked up so I shut it down when I went to turn it back on it said it it could not find a operating system installed.

Anyway I found the OS that came with the laptop and tried to do a reinstall and it didn't pick up any hard drives at all. Ran the little Vista diagnostic and it said "lololol no hard drive fag".

So bf2s my question is; am I totally screwed and have to get a new hard drive for it or can something be done to make that HD work again? If I take it to like one of those repair places will they go looking around the hard drive by any chance? Because there is stuff on there I can't explain to my family or the government.  The laptop is a P-6831FX if that helps at all.

Thanks.

Might have slipped out of place, somehow. There's probably a panel on the back that you can remove to access the HD. See if you can see anything out of place.

That's what I'd do.

Yup, that's good advice from Liquidator. Pull out the HDD and then re-insert it. Also, if you're feeling brave you could take off the keyboard and have a look underneath, make sure everything is connected and nothing is obviously broken. You should be able to find service manuals or other documentation on the manufacturer's website on how to get under the keyboard.

If your system's onboard diagnostic deal can take a look at the other onboard components I'd suggest running that; it'll tell you if anything else was affected.
