In a ruling that will surely rock the anti-trust lawyer's socks off, Intel has been fined a massive $1.45 billion dollars by the EU for "anti-competitive practices". This far exceeds the $497 million dollar fine Microsoft received back in 2004.

The basis of the anti-trust case that was started after AMD filed complaints to the EU in 2000, 2003 and 2006 is that Intel was giving hidden rebates to the major producers of computers if they would only use Intel products.

The EU also told Intel to stop all illegal business practices immediately insinuating that the practices are still going on. This landmark ruling shows that the EU will not tolerate any sort of anti-trust practices that hurt consumers or keep prices inflated artificially. Intel will has said that the ruling was unjust and that they will appeal.

I think its kind of wrong since its kind of like monopolizing the CPU market.. they were planning to dominate the CPU market by eliminating AMD CPU from the market by offering discounts and rebates to other major companies... . Good thing something got done... competition is always good! Hopefully AMD can make a comeback... and start kicking ass again... Also read that Intel spends ten times more on research than AMD. Also some are saying that Intel is taking over the CPU market because its offering incentives(bribes) to other potential customers.

One way to get more money, EU.

But if this translates to higher Intel CPU prices, especially the upcoming 32nm parts, fuck you EU....

It all gets back to the consumers. I'll buy AMD once I'm convinced that I'll get better $/perf than with Intel, and so far I haven't been convinced since 2004.

Intel has been practicing more shady these days, attempting to sue Nvidia and secret incentives. Who the fuck is letting things like this go on?

Intel processors are amazing... hard to argue that...
if AMD came out with an insane fast proc at a decent price... i would buy it... just like i did when i bought a q9400

To be fair, the AMD platform (CPU/MB) can be very cheap for what you get. I use them for office rigs, but otherwise it's Intel. And no amount of Yosamite Sam stampin' and hollerin' from the green team's gonna change my mind until (my above post).
