Rather W7 RC, but if not - Vista
Ubuntu is obviously far superior to any windows for everything except gaming,
Yea, because in Linux you have to know all the commands to really accomplish anything ... much more efficient and superior ...

You don't need to know squat to run ubuntu. A normal user has no reason to open a terminal. Everything can be installed though synaptic. Just tick the check box next to the stuff you wanna install, hit apply and you're done.

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
Oh and for all you XP rulez fanbois...
I used to think that way too, I thought Vista was a horrid over-resource hungry piece of shiny shit. Then I got it, with a decent system, (C2D, 4GB RAM) and it's good.
It's brilliant infact.

Eh ... yes and no.max wrote:

Though to be honest, I have thought about getting the new Jaunty Jackelope Ubuntu and giving it a whirl. They got the CD at my uni for free, I think. Or like €5. All the school computers run Fedora, though, and it's honestly quite annoying. I don't like the way the file system is set up. I much prefer Windows or OSX. Hopefully Ubuntu is different, though, but from my experiences with other Linux distros, I've given up all hope.
What's wrong with ext3?
Or do you mean the directory structure? What I love about *nix is that you can mount your volumes wherever you want.
It makes for a much more logical setup. That way I can mount my movies disk to ~/media/movies, my music disk to ~/media/music, etc...
I can easily use a different file system for different folders (e.g. boot files go onto a fast file system & disk, home goes on a redundant disk and some file system that's more robust)
Incidentally when you run out of drive letters under Windows you have to mount your disk as a folder *nix style (C:\temp\Disk1)

I'm in High School, so i will look into that.CapnNismo wrote:

I would wait for Windows 7 or for the moment, if you must build it now, use the RC. My advice. Save the money you could spend on Vista (Why buy XP now?) and buy a copy of Win7.
OR ... if you are a student of any kind, doesn't matter what level of education, look into student software from Microsoft. If you're in the US, there is the MSDN Alliance and IIRC, they have partnerships with high schools, too. If you are at a university, though, it should be little effort to get discounted student software.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Fail. Whatever you can do in Linux, you can do in Windows and visa versa. Perhaps after finally beginning to use Linux you may have some learned some new things by virtue of exploration and never had the motivation to learn or understood the windows equivalent.Sydney wrote:

Exactly, I hate having to use the mouse, much easier to type in the command.haffeysucks wrote:

Hint: When using terminal, tab is your best friend.
It's not WHAT you can do, but HOW it can be done that makes Linux superior tbh.jsnipy wrote:

Also, I'm addicted the the UNIX terminal, can't live without it.
I'm gonna have to wait 'til at least the summer to build it anyway, so I will probably just get the RC when I do, then get it when it comes out or just before that thing I read about where the RC shuts down your computer every couple hours.CapnNismo wrote:
