I know I've saturated my video game library in 2008. As cheap as video games are for the investment of time you can put into them, there are only so many games that you can spread your free time over. My list of owned titles that I have yet to play is enormous, so I've naturally cut back on spending.

I blame WoW. There hasnt been as many good PC games made since that came out. They seen to just make less games now because nothing competes with it. Less people buy games. WoW sucks ass.

The casual college-jock sports types are no longer buying into the racing games and Madden remakes because hardcore geeks the world over are playing WoW? Nice logic. Perhaps it's just because it's coming around to the summer season? I'm pretty sure video-gaming has always been on a seasonal/cyclical trend; people play less during the summer and buy/play more during the winter and Xmas season. It seems as though nowadays the 'Doom & Gloom' merchants will attribute any drop or falloff to the "werst ekkkonomic crysis evahhh!"

I was speaking from a PC game standpoint. I dont have an opinion on the other platforms because I dont own one. Every time I go to EB games the PC games shelf gets smaller and smaller. I dont doubt that this is because WoW dominated the market for ages, making it less attractive for games developers to even bother making new material.

WoW was an aberration. Most of its player base came from outside the traditional pc gaming community. As the potential market for games grows and the potential profits grow, publishers' raise the standard required for profit. Once upon a time a large mmo had a userbase of around 300,000. The gaming industry is slowly moving toward a similar format to the movie industry. The big publishers are pushing it a bit that way I think. To maximise profits.
If we ever end up with a Golden Compass/New Line Cinema style situation I'll know the shovel ware side of the gaming industry has won.

As for now, CS:S is the only FPS I find entertaining. That, FM09, a little GTR-E and FIFA09 with my friends are the only games I've played the last 6 months...
