k, time to get a new TV.

Currently looking at the 42" Loewe Connect, so the budget is around that. My father is the one making the purchase, so he's the one I have to convince.

I know there's probably tons of TVs that are better in the same price range, so please halp.

Would be a major plus if it had an internal satalite TV Card reader (DVB-S), because the stuff we get from the sat company is shit.

My father's arguments:
+ Internal DVB-S card reader
+ Buy Loewe Blu-ray player and you only need one remote
+ GREAT sound, without the need to buy seperate sound system (I agree here)

Me:
- You can get better picture quality for the price
- buy a logitech harmony, and it's all ok

So, find me a better TV in the same price category? Thanks

I won't post Norwegian price because it varies so much from country to country

If you want a good TV, then don't get a Loewe.

It's well below par image quality and it's build quality is utter shit.

Pioneer/Panasonic/Samsung are the ways to go. Now, as for sound quality and blu ray shit, I don't know.

Best TV atm, I think : http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/ … 02556.html

Good ones as well : http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/ … 97901.html

Yeah, I was just comparing prices and was shocked when I saw that the Pioneer KURO LX5090 was cheaper...

Looks like it'll be a Kuro then, always loved Pioneer's plasmas. (and always preffered plasma over LCD)

edit- can't find that PRO111FD anywhere...

Now, Pioneer 50" Plasma TV KURO PDP-LX5090H, can you beat it?

Pioneer, without a doubt, make the best tv's tho they have actually stopped making them now, it nearly destroyed the company due to people not wanting to pay the price when they could just buy a generic Samsung, LG etc....

So yeah, Kuro all the way. And a Pioneer plasma really is a plasma TV of the highest quality.

Failing that, try a Sony Bravia W series.

**Or** Check out an LED tv, i must say, i'm impressed.

Tbh its alot about personal preference. when i bought my tv i had a sony, phillips, samsung, LG and pioneer all in the same room playing the exact same thing and my favourite (and my mums since she's the bank) was the phillips (got a massive discount of $2700 to $1900 too )

So really as long as it is a good brand and has all the necessary standards (ie: 1080p, good response time, good contrast etc) and you like it, then its the TV for you/

Maybe true, but I've had some issues with my 37" Samsungs software. Motherfucker's laggier and buggier than.. ..something that's laggy and buggy. Serious frustration ensues when trying to exit the channel guide. Reseting or updating haven't fixed the problem so far, maybe even made it worse.

The internal speakers are also poo, but that's to be expected of flatties (Yes, I use AUX when I can be bothered).

I have a 32" Sony Bravia in my bedroom and it's by far better that the Samsung on practically all basic areas of operation. It's fast, responsive and the image is good. Even the audio doesn't suck.

I wouldn't buy Samsung again, but then I'm probably stuck with that one for at least the next 4 years anyway.
I need around tree fiddy.

Update: due to space issues, the TV has to be around 42 inches... What would be the best bet in this category? Samsung LED?

Honestly go Sony. You get what you pay for when it comes to TVs.

Sony W series is an amazing TV.

But you can't deny how good an LED panel can look, that said, it's early doors for the technology in the mainstream home and you can't help but feel you will find LED tv's being better a year or so down the line.

Plus not buying LED means you can actually save a rather large amount of money buying one of the best 42" LCD panels available.

I'm a fan of Samsung and Sony. Check out whatever upper-mid one you can find for $1800 or less on the internet, find a store that has them so you can see the picture with your own eyes, then weigh the price difference between buying it at the store with the natural markup or ordering online and having to deal with shipping and maybe an RMA process. Just make sure the guys at the store are playing high-def picture and have the things hooked up and adjusted correctly if they look crummy.

k, I've decided to go for the Samsung 46" LED

I'll try to get ahold of the previous model (better than the new EDGE-LED tech.), but if I don't get it in a store, I'll grab the 46" B7070 platinum

Samsung 46" ToC 240Hz. Chop off $800 from a $2000 mark if you're fine with 120Hz. Unless you're rich, you don't need to pay an outrageous ($2000+) price for an LED set that small.

>60Hz technology isn't good enough yet in any case, so 100Hz/200Hz modes would be turned off, unless I'm watching sports...

@herrr_smity: yeah, I already said I was getting the first one you mentioned
