Why, what's happening next? Surely the new rules aren't going to come in until next season?

No they'arent

Ferrari have the taken the Fia to court and lost along with the threat to quit F1 completely.    Toyoto mention the fact that Bernie  has threathed to take Ferrari to court over breach of contract, plus Alonso statement that he doesnt want to compete with the 'smaller',teams makes this a bad situation speakesss means that thef future of F1 0qen trouble means a lot.

Plus the fact that Massa and  Kimi will follow Ferrari's  lead no matter what Ferrari do. Given the fact that Hamilton stated that F1 is  no longer 'FUN"  means that F1 is (thanks to Mosley) arent' willing to budge one inch, due to the cap (($40 million dollors) means that we could very well see the loss of Ferrari, Renault, Toyota, Bmw and Red Bull means that F1  could suffer the loss of some Very good teams.

Plus Ferrari have been in F1 for over 60 years, even with all their faults not withstanding.

2010 could be a VERY different series make me sad, to say the least.

F1 without Ferrari would be a sad, very boring series

Hardly, the series at the moment is good and as long as the quality keeps up and there's overtaking, I couldn't care less if Ferrari were there or not.

Damn straight.

There are other great teams interested in joining F1 if the budget cap goes ahead too. Lola being back in F1 would be great! Teams all on equal budgets is a great way of leveling the field and getting more parties to compete.

I used to be a Ferrari fan (which ended when they hired Raikonnen). The way they've been behaving recently, F1 wouldn't miss them.

Wow, Button wins pole. I'll admit Brawn weren't looking too good here and Raikkonnen had an awesome lap there at the end but I have no idea how Button managed to pip him by 0.025s

What a class lap by him, the guy's top draw

Now time to wait for the fuel loads

Do we want a spec series?  To that I say bullshit.  F1 is what it is because of the 'high tech' competition.  Anything else would be a waste imvho.

Yeah, F1 is all about the development of cars and the technical challenges, the Dubious Double Deck Diffusers™ were an example of the interesting side of car development and how innovation works in F1

The hell they would'nt.  I don't dispute that F1 could survive minus ANY team...but Ferrari?  They have been at it for 60 years, I mean my God, it would be like having a shower with your clothes on.  I know Ferrari have had thier way in the past, but my God, F1 without Ferrari would be like F1 with out the core team...geezus.

A step back and some perspective is in order here.  And the series being 'good'...omg, just because Ferrari are'nt performing well atm, certainly doesnt indicate they dont need to be in F1.  With all due respect...get a grip and stop jumping on the Bernie and Mosley show.

I've enjoyed this season far more than the last couple, not due to Ferrari's lack of competitiveness but due to some of the other battles that have gone on.  You cant go past Webber's move on Alonso in Spain a few weeks ago, and that sort of thing has been happening a lot this year.  Personally I don't like Bernie, I think he's a massive tool and a lot of his rule ideas are just crap, but I think a budget cap of some description is a good idea.  The current idea sucks, I don't like the 2 tier system, but F1 needs to get together and sort a fair budget cap out at some point.

I don't want Ferrari to leave, but if they're going to throw tantrums like this rather than attempt to negotiate then let them leave I say.

Perhaps a new championship to fill the gap between F1 and GP2?  It's nothing short of blasphemous to turn F1 into a stock car sport, it's supposed to have the glamour of james bond and oceans 11 combined.

Brawn has shown you dont need the budget of Ferrari to do well, however, it is really a manufacturers sport imo, the brawn, is essentially the 09 honda, with mclarens engine (two big budget teams).

A cap on spending wouldnt show up right away though, however, a few seasons down the line, I think you will start to see the sport gradually turn into stock car racing.

Yes, BrawnGp is the 09' Honda, no question there.  But Lola, USGPE, Aston Martin...they will ALL get thier asses handed to them, no doubt in my mind.

A cap on budget will NOT be good for the sport, niether will the exit of Ferrari, as well as Toyota, BMW, Renault or Red Bull.  This (current) situation is unacceptable imo.

As far as overtaking, and or competiveness...its all been there before, this season is nothing new really.  What we have seen is a few teams that were'nt competitive come to the fore, thus making it more interesting for the fans, no doubt about that.

Fighting for position has been a non-issue this year with Brawn absolutely dominating, single passes not withstanding...but in the end, we've seen single, brilliant passes in the past...I've been an F1 (as well as NASCAR) fan for better than 15 years, this season is really nothing out of the ordinary tbh.

But really, this thread is about the current GP, not a hash of the rules and the proposals...we have a thread for that.  Remember?
