Just got the ambassador. It's complete crap of course, but I'm using it anyway because it's my first god damn unlock in 10 hours of play.

Finray you don't even play the game, what are you talking about, it's not "stupidly random". It's already been explained by the TF2 devs- it's based on activity and game participation, therefore sidestepping the issue of achievement grinding whilst still rewarding hard-working players. Within 2 weeks everyone will have every single unlock (probably 3 times)- so what's the fucking issue? You can't get your pub-owning overpowered Ambassador straightaway and be given infinite kills on a plate? Aww, poor baby, guess you'll just have to play with the 20 other original weapons that have already been in the game kickin' arse for the last 6 months.
The soldier helmet is still the ONLY worthwhile upgrade I've got from this patch, and that's all I ever care about

I have never seen you play TF2, ever. For someone that hates pub-CoD4 and 'noobish' gameplay, why have I never seen you on the TF2 #irc if you are so obviously playing the game?Finray wrote:

It was only 'bugged' in the way that upon mass-update the Steam servers had trouble getting everyone logged in and authenticated. Same effect as when you lose connection to the Steam Community and your stats / achievements no longer update. If the servers were congested (which they heavily were) and you fail to connect properly to the Steam servers, then obviously your time and the calculations that go towards 'earning' you unlocks would not work. The system was overloaded, sure, and lots of random things were glitching... however in the last 1-2 days I haven't seen anyone gain 'random' unlocks from Spectating, nor have I seen anyone log-in for their first time ever and get 5 unlocks instantly. I've been playing a shitload more pub-play than I normally ever play since the update, and don't see anything to complain about in the new unlock system. You can't grind them anymore which is annoying for object-specific goals (but they're developing a system for this anyway) but the system still rewards active and good players. That's the overall 'positive' change here.
