The system was overloaded, sure, and lots of random things were glitching... however in the last 1-2 days I haven't seen anyone gain 'random' unlocks from Spectating, nor have I seen anyone log-in for their first time ever and get 5 unlocks instantly. I've been playing a shitload more pub-play than I normally ever play since the update, and don't see anything to complain about in the new unlock system. You can't grind them anymore which is annoying for object-specific goals (but they're developing a system for this anyway) but the system still rewards active and good players. That's the overall 'positive' change here.Finray wrote:

Not really, I actually just think that this change of all the changes Steam has ever made is one that doesn't encourage fucking clueless noobs. Previously whenever an update went live, the game would degrade into 2-3 weeks of senseless no-teamwork mayhem where everyone was just playing for some arbitrary shitty-ass achievements. Now there are two incentives to play- the achievement system is still there for those that feel it presents a form of 'merit', but the unlocks are simply given now for people that play actively. There's no longer a developer-introduced motivation for players to ruin their own teamplay. Which can only be a good thing, in my opinion. Making public TF2 an incrementally better place to play and learn in.Bevo wrote:

I have the Orange Box, should I play TF2? I received it as a gift from a guy in residence and never really played it...actually I never opened it.

Best FPS game of the last 2 years, according to all popular and industry opinion. That is, if noobified and rehashed old franchises aren't your thing (CoD4/CoD:WaW). If you ever played games to any competitive degree, it's the new favourite for tournaments, LANs and professional team squads. It's different from almost all other FPS games on the market right now and the 6v6 league scene is one of the most dynamic and exciting ones to come about in recent years; the rest of the industry seems to be wallowing in a stale pit of old-titles (CoD2, BF2, CS:S) and the shovelware CoD4-WaW games are suffering in an existential crisis as they and their playerbase realize that they'll soon be replaced by the next terrible reincarnation of the series and they'll have to learn it allll over again to similar little reward.Pochsy wrote:

That + decent sense of humour in the gameplay and some interesting class dynamics. Can take a little while to learn all the little tricks though. Great fun. Having wankers on your team can get very, very frustrating though.Uzique wrote:

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
It's fun for a bit but when the gimmick wears off it becomes painfully unfun so IDK it's alright if you've got a weekend to kill or something.Pochsy wrote:

Ignore Swinub; if I'm the token TF2 elitist he's the token "I'm bored of this game therefore the game is terrible" narrowminded-fucker. Plus, he thinks Command & Conquer 3 is a good game, doesn't play anything other than 24/7 shitty public servers (the game really isn't 'alive' in pub) and is terribly inept at it for that matter also. Enough said. If you like FPS games, especially unique FPS games that aren't sub-standard clones of everything else, you'll love this game. If you like competitive games with a strong sense of teamplay rather than Rambo-winning, you'll love this game even more. Either way by not playing it you're missing out on one of the best releases on the PC gaming scene.Fat_Swinub wrote:

So I've installed and played 2 rounds- lag. ping was 42 in the first server I tried, 30 something in the other. I turned everything to low that I could, made sure nothing was running in the background, and ensured that my connection was functioning properly. So what am I missing.
I'm currently using wireless on my laptop which has never given me a problem in ANY game. The laptop has 4GB of ram, 8600GT M and a 2.0Ghz dual core.

Did you turn multicore support on? If so, take it off.
It could be either High-Pingers in the server, or the quality of the server itself - A lot of aussie ones tend to disconnect everyone at irregular intervals.Pochsy wrote:

Nope, didn't touch it. Good suggestion though.Bevo wrote:

Control/input lag or connection lag?Pochsy wrote:

Recommend the normal troubleshooting #101 basics: low ping =/= flawless connection, close torrent programs and P2P transfers etc.etc...

Seems to be Input lag, when I was shooting the flame thrower it would lag badly for the duration and then go back to normal. There is nothing running in the background, but I have noticed that Steam takes up 10% of my 4GB of ram. Is this normal?

Some servers have been giving everyone lag since the update. You might have just been unlucky. Did you try a lot of different servers?
Yo uzique, when a game stops being fun it doesn't take a genius to guess how good the game is. C&C3 owns though, deal with it.Uzique wrote:

Also tf2 hates 8 series nvidia cards if you can play on a different comp in your room try that my clan mate has the same problem with a 8800gts 512
I just got the huntsman.

I thought it was just Nvidia in general. When I got my 8800GT I loaded slower (with the same settings) as my old X1800GTO.dill13 wrote:

So after playing for an hour I find no special attachment to the game. I doubt I will play again. I got two unlocks while playing, likely because I am so unbelievably shit; the huntsman and the flare gun. Not fun at all, and I hate how slippery the movement feels. It didn't look like every level was made of ice to me, so why the fuck do I slide when I take my finger off the button?

Hmm I didn't like it at first mainly because I sucked, give it a few more hours.Pochsy wrote:

I own both. TF2 > C&C3.Fat_Swinub wrote:
