Windows does a fine job on its own, in my opinion.

do any of the free ones consolidate free space and make page file continual?

Diskeeper.  The built-in Windows defragger is based on Diskeeper.

Jsnipy, to make the page file continual:

Choose the no paging file option.

Reboot your computer.

Then just set a new one.  It'll make it continuous.

Diskeeper only takes a long time the first time.  After that, everything becomes defragmented, and it'll never take as long as the first time.  It'll depend on how many files you've installed or downloaded.

I suppose your idea works well without additional software and can be easily scripted.

The same goes for any defragmenter. If you do it routinely it only takes a couple of minutes at best.

I thought he was talking about the page file, as in it will never explicitly defrag after the first time.

@HaiBai: I completely understand what you have said, but I recall diskkeeper having an explicit option consolidate the page file (as well as consolidating directory space) and I was wondering if other free ones had that same option.

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
