My dad's computer doesn't boot anymore. It just stops when saying "detecting IDE drives" (nothing will show up). I can't access the BIOS-setup or the boot menu. The sound signal is normal, yet I guess it's the HD, because I can't hear it working. There are no discs which might fuck up the booting.

It's a MSI K8N Neo4 mainboard
AMD 64 3200+
4 x 512 MB ram dual channel
Geforce 7300
Western Digital 300GB HD

This computer has worked with that setup for several years. about 3 months ago I bought a new mainboard (same as before, old one was broken). It worked with that new mainboard for 3 months.

Any idea how I could make it work again? This is the hardcore mode, because I don't have a second HD to try out.

Any help would be great.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Yessir, it does. now works till "boot failure, insert system disc and press enter"

no primary master (obviously), all other drives are recognized properly.

reconnecting power and/or data cable didn't work, different socked made no difference either.

In bios reselect HDD as primary boot device

HD already was primary booting device. auto-detecting the HD in BIOS didn't bring any results. Everything says there is no HD...

I guess it's time for a new one...

Thanks for your help

Sounds like the hard drive is dead.

I think you've already figured that out though. Sorry brutha-

no success.

There's probably a mechanical problem with the HD. That computer has been mine for 2 years and I know every sound it ever made. Now there's something missing...
