It's wrong, we shouldn't appease them because of what they did to us on 9/11.
This time Europe has gone too far. This appeasement bullshit has to end somewhere.
Can you imagine if they appeased the Nazi's after WWII?

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
I agree. Also, it is not like they demanded that the exam for everybody be switched to a different day to accomodate them (or because it was disrespectful to have an exam for anyone on their holy day), and they actually made the sacrifice of being quarantined to make it happen.CameronPoe wrote:
I don't give a shit either tbh. No skin off my nose. If it's no major headache and it doesn't cost the state too much then I think it's totally fine. Our constitution is one that safeguards religious freedom and pluralism with respect to your choice of religion. It was the state's fuckup that the exam had to be rescheduled anyway.Varegg wrote:

Up to ten Orthodox Jewish students who should be sitting a rescheduled state examination in English this Saturday (the Sabbath) are having their religious observances facilitated by the state. They are being quarantined on the Saturday and being permitted to sit the exam on Sunday instead.
What are your thoughts on this? Appeasement? Pragmatism? Right? Wrong?
In the strictist form of the word, yes it is appeasement. period. The state has taken in specific religious considerations in their decision.
I do not have a problem with it because it is such a minor consideration it practically is off the radar screen, ( except for Cam's fishing trip)
second thought, I also do not have a problem with it because it is not Islam, a violent, intolerant, destructive religion whose ideology of superiority over gays, women, and non-Muslims, has no place in western society.

So appeasement is okay as long as we don't appease Muslims?
Wait behind the line ..............................................................
I think appeasment comes in a more sinister enviroment. When you are changing your activities in order to avoid promised reprisals, then I think that is appeasment. To remove all cartoons of Mohamed so that your newspapers don't get bombed. To change your public policy so you don't get bombed.Varegg wrote:

Did the Jewish students threaten reprisals if they didn't change their test day? And it does not have to bombing. If they threatened law suits and the school caved, then I would call that appeasment.
Lets also not forget that the state did this WITHOUT fear of reprisal if they didn't.imortal wrote:

Most Islamic appeasement is done for this very reason, they are afraid of what might happen if they didn't.
we call this a retaliation thread.

Since we're jumping to wild generalisations because of a tiny minority, does this mean I can label all Americans bigoted cunts because you happen to be one?lowing wrote:

you just did lewl
Sure, you can judge anyone you choose to, I repect your right to do so, however, my statement about the religion of Islam is a statement of FACT. Don't shoot the messenger because of the message. Islamic outrage over everything EXCEPT the actions of its followers speaks volumes.ghettoperson wrote:

Oh it's a FACT, I forgot that. My bad, I guess you're right after all lowing.
Well if Islam does hold gays, women and infidels as equals and not inferior please correct me with proof. If not your argument is pretty much fucked.ghettoperson wrote:

the catholic church doesn't allow gays the same rights
women didn't have the same rights as men in the UK until 1928
blacks didn't have the same rights as white in the USA until early 1970's
What you keep failing to grasp is this; Man is the problem, not a religion.

But if I were in charge I would say " You are free to find a school that observes your beliefs and holidays, but this one doesn't really give a fuck and if it means so much you should have researched it before you decided to go to school here. " Then I would have threatened to shave off their facial hair due to health concerns.
And given that Islam is 1300 years old or so, technically speaking they're 700 years ahead of the Christians.

The Cathoilic Church does not punish homosexuality, all they do is project a message it is wrong. The Church does not have the power to bestow or remove rights.FatherTed wrote:

notice how you give dates that are past tense with your other 2 examples. We live in the here and now.

hold on slick, I asked for proof that my statement is not correct. so how about it?ghettoperson wrote:

the age of Islam is not the topic of my statement that you say is wrong. So if I am wrong prove it. Because I can list examples as to where I am right.

I assume he started the religion during his life, rather than several hundred years after it. I know very little about the founding of Islam though, so I could be wrong.
So everywhere in the world should be at the same level as each other? thats not how it works. enviromental determinism, read up on it.lowing wrote:

I can quote posts of yours all day that would prove my thesis that all Americans are racist bigots. It doesn't mean it's true, but selective research would show that.lowing wrote:

I figured Ted did a pretty good job providing some reasons as to why it's not, just because you say we live in the here and now, doesn't mean it's less of a valid point.
