South African Moloko Temo, a grandmother-of-29, passed away on Wednesday, officials near her home said.Mrs Temo said she was born on July 4, 1874 – making her at least five years older than any other claimant to the title of world's oldest person.Politicians and friends paid tribute to her remarkable life.

Cassel Mathale, premier of the Limpopo province where Mrs Temo lived throughout her 14 decades, said: "One of the proudest moments we remember about her was when she voted in the April 22 general elections. This makes her a democrat at heart and one of the defenders of our freedom.

"Limpopo province was her home, and we are thankful to her family for having allowed her to share the remaining part of her life with us."We convey our deepest condolences to her family and relatives during this moment of grief."Mrs Temo leaves behind her only surviving daughter, Evelyn Mothemane, herself believed to be aged in her late nineties. As well her 29 grandchildren, she also had 58 great-children and countless great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs Temo has previously said the secret to a long life was a"trust in God and respect for your parents."She said her favourite foods were spinach, meat, sweets and Coca-Cola.Despite Mrs Temo's claim to be the world's oldest woman, her age was never formally verified by the Guinness Book of Records.

The officially-recognised world's oldest woman, Portuguese grandmother Maria de Jesus, died in January aged 115.Since then Guinness officials have been trying to verify the age of her replacement.Critics have previously challenged the validity of Mrs Temo's claim to the crown.

If her story is true, it meant she lived throughout the entire twentieth century, an incredibly turbulent period in South African politics. The apparent year of her birth, 1874, saw English, Boer and African armies battle for control of the colony. She later survived the horrors of apartheid before reaching the age of 109 when Nelson Mandela was elected president in 1994.

Other events from 1874 include, in Britain, the appointment of Conservative Benjamin Disraeli as Prime Minister following the defeat of his Liberal predecessor William Gladstone.

The Factory Act banned the use of children as chimney sweeps, Aston Villa football club was formed and future Prime Minister
Winston Churchill was born.

Holy crap...

A friend once told me if the amount of oxygen in the air was a certain amount more and the atmospheric pressure and humidity or whatever was different that our bodies could fight diseases and also live a lot longer. Like 200+ years old!

Mrs Temo said she was born on July 4, 1874

...

Anyway, just today I was reading a wikipedia page that said we should be able to live 150-200 years easily by the year ... (3000 I think).

It's a weird paradox; People who live in big cities with great hospital support never go past 85, whether people who live in Africa or other similar isolated places, hit 90 easily, restricted from medical support.

But what about the ppl who get

1. shot in civil wars
2. die because of no health care
3. starve to death

tell that to them that hey, you hit 90s easily over there!

edit: When comparing the overall average, you see the big picture.

Woops, I was wrong.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23rd_century

# 2300: The United Nations projects that in 2300, life expectancies in most developed countries will be between 150 and 200 years, and still rising, though more and more slowly than before

3000, 2300, not a big difference

But now that I think of it.. In less than 300 years people will be able to live double as long as we can now..

Don't ask me, ask Wikipedia. or UN. ( http://www.un.org/esa/population/public … 0final.pdf )

Also cool :

2300: Google's plan to index all the world's information and make it searchable could be achieved, according to Eric E. Schmidt.[2]

Haha, I quite like reading what will happen in the future according to wikipedia.

Henry Allingham joined the Royal Navy Air Service in September 1915 before transferring to the RAF in April 1918.

The Royal Navy hosted a birthday party on HMS President in London for his family, close friends and members of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

Mr Allingham, who lives in East Sussex, said he was looking forward to being a teenager again.
