I was pointing out arguments regarding Palestinians who's families have lived in the region for a few hundred years vs. European/American immigrants to Israel...usmarine wrote:

So you're willing to give South Western USA back to the Mexicans, since their ancestors lived there a few hundred years back?
In a perfect world. I'd love to have a farm in Ireland, Germany or Wales.usmarine wrote:

Sadly it isn't a perfect world. That doesn't mean we have to accept something bad happening in it. Bad shit happens yes, but we have the ability to make real progress at solving this problem in a way that wont get too many people killed/cause another diaspora. Trying to sort out tribal Africa after it got so anally raped by European colonialism is impossible, but there's a chance we can work this particular problem out via diplomatic/economic pressure. I'd be quite happy if a democracy formed, covering that whole God-forsaken strip of land named Palisrael or some shit (not fussed on the name, if they want 'the Holy Land' as a name they can have it) which incorporated both the Israeli and Palestinian citizenry in a republic, similar to that of the USA, with several states internally with different parliaments etc.
Just gotta stop the fucking bombings/rocket attacks/artillery strikes/shootings/helicopter attacks etc. from both sides. I'm sure at the end of the day all the Israeli/Palestinian dude on the street wants is a chance to earn a few dollars, feed the family and live in a nice house praying to who-ever the fuck they want. I don't think suicide bomber appears on the list of 'what I want to be when I grow up' for Palestinian kids tbh.
What matters is HOW it was created. The fact that it got bigger due to a lost war is completely irrelevant as it does not in any way legitimise the existence of the state of Israel. So now you know what to do with your fact.usmarine wrote:

Even if you say it was stolen or conquered. There still is no difference as to HOW it was created from any other nation. So USmarines question is still valid.oug wrote:

True, there's also Cyprus, the Kurds... and that's just off the top of my head in that area.usmarine wrote:

pretty much the world bro. the whole world. i could live in italy and do fuck all. yay.oug wrote:

I wasn't aware that he was asking something. As I understood it he tried to legitimise the existence of the state by pointing out that the Arabs lost a war that resulted in the already illegal state becoming bigger. Other cases of state creations - I assume that's what you mean and not nations - are irrelevant as well. An illegal action is not made legal just because somebody else may have gotten away with it in the past.lowing wrote:

It's a case of time heals all then. My parents are both Cypriot refugees. They lost their homes and their land in 1974. I'd say that's a bit too early to forget.usmarine wrote:

he asked what makes the Palestinians different than anyone else...I thought that was a question.oug wrote:

Now if you want to debate about why we pay so much attention to the case of Palestine compared to cases like that of Cyprus, I'd guess it has something to do with the amount of violence from both sides.
