What is the fastest DDR RAM???

I have computer @ home that I want to get some new RAM to upgrade it, and it could use another GB of RAM, but only supports DDR.

I don't have enough to upgrade mobo, just get some more RAM.

Currently has 1 GB of DDR PC 3200

I don't know what that means exactly, but I assume there may be something better in DDR.

Im not 100% sure... but i think 3200 is as high as DDR goes... so just grab another gb of 3200
But either way if u kept your original RAM and added onto it... even if it was faster it would run at the speed of the slowest RAM

I'm pretty sure it was pc 3200.
I think the ram will be limited by which processor you have. For example in AMD world the xp2600 was only capable of a max fsb of 333. The xp3200 could go to 400mhz (pc3200 = 400mhz).

Probably trivial since it is all cheap now.

I'm gonna have to buy 2 new sticks anyway, so I just wanted to check.

MOBO only has 2 slots, it's a POS.

I need to get a better graphics card, but that can wait 'til I get a new Computer over the summer for games and stuff. I currently have a GeForce 6600LE, utter shit. I can barely run BF2 and it won't run anymore without crashing to desktop.

Save your money for building a computer in the summer. Don't waste the money and time upgrading a POS.

Considering you can pick up 1gb for less than $30... its not a huge waste of money.

pc 3200 is the fastest ddr ram...

uwotm8?

DDR1 is twice as expensive as DDR2 here.

Or get second hand for like, free.

DDR3, DDR3, DDR3. When you upgrade, make sure you get all your shit DDR3. Yay. I plan to do this when I care to upgrade, right now money is going into my bike, car and house.

ddr3 is still really overpriced though

And not really that necessary. Just get a shit-load of high-clock DDR2 and you have comparable performance. Unless you're building a system around an i7 or one of the new AMDs and really want to build a bruiser.

PC3200 is the fastest JEDEC approved RAM. You can get well above that. Finding it at reasonable prices is another story. In any case most systems using DDR ram are more latency bound than frequency bound.

fastest officially supported DDR is 400mhz, I have seen sticks that are 533Mhz.

edit: I c, Bert said same already.

If you grab a stick faster than PC3200 it will only run at PC3200 anyway because that's what your current stick is.

DDR is more expensive than DDR2 as it's outdated and there's not a lot of incentive for manufacturers to make it.  DDR2 is still what you want to get now; Doomed you suck

That highly depends what price range we are talking about for whole build. AM3 AMDs and i7s & DDR2 work pretty badly together

Parents still want to use this old one. It will also still be used for homework for my sister and stuff.

I am going to be building myself a computer over the summer when I get the money, hopefully my Grandma will be able to help me out with some cash so I can get a good system.

yeah but just dropping my 5 cents to the guis saying DDR3 is not worth it.

And its not so badly priced these days either.

Ah okay, well that makes sense then.

My advice is to reformat it, then. If you haven't done that in a while (or ever). Do that, get a fresh install on there and then upgrade. Or upgrade then reformat. Whichever. Maybe overclock the CPU and see what that gets you, too. Couldn't hurt.

My DDR3 6GB kit has come down about 40% in last 5 months. So yeah, I would say DDR3 has made nose dive in terms of price and its very close to turning into the all round memory solution in mainstream too. (I suppose i5 will the the last thing needed to get DDR3 mainstream, demand for DDR3 has sky rocketed since i7 and AM3).
