I have two laptops and two wireless routers.  One laptop can only support 802.11a/b while the other can support 802.11g/n

Should I chain two routers together to broadcast each?

mixed mode will allow both b and g devices.

that laptop can support both g and n.  using one router, running g and b, will let you use both laptops

Forget the old b router.  Just get a wireless usb stick or pcmcia card that supports at least g and attach it to your older laptop.

Depends on if he really needs 'n' speeds.  I personally couldn't care less as I only use the wireless connection for internet.  If I need to transfer files I just hardwire it.
