Lowdown: My dad owns a small company (He has 6 employees in the office excluding himself) and he is hiring a 7th person, this person would be inheriting an old dell (3 + years maybe more) with a 1.8Ghz single core processor... So I told him he needs a new one

I wanted to give the person speed, so a 3GHz Dual Core processor for loading documents FAST and just the ability to move around the computer with no delay, he also wanted the whole office to have Vista (don't bitch about that please) in the entire office, so i figured 64 bit buisness edition w/ 4gb of ram

And then I build around those devices

So basically I put one together that will handle two monitors (because that's what he wants) what I came up with is below

EVGA GeForce 9600GT 512MB
Antec 900
Gigabyte Motherboard
Thermaltake 430W PSU
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz
G.Skill 4GB (2x 2GB)
Seagate 160GB 7200rpm HDD
Vista Buisness Ed. 64 bit OEM
Freezer 7 Pro for CPU

Now of course I didnt list misc stuff such as NOD32, DVD drive, but I assure you its a complete system

HERE'S MY CONCERN (and where you guys come in!):

I'm concerned that because I'm building it it will have problems, problems that I wouldn't care about like the monthly lockup or something just not working correctly

That wouldn't be a problem to me, but to someone with sensitive data on his computer that needs to be accessible throughout the workday I was fretting that my build would be an issue

I get this concern from my friend who I built a system for... He has problems with his machine (which honestly shouldn't be there but I'm clueless and it would take to long to figure out the root of the issue) but he doesn't care because the things a beast.

But my friend also runs a lot of applications, most of them high demanding...

The thing is, the computer the office employee would be using wouldn't be loaded up with software, my dad expects him to be using like 15GB (excluding the O/S) compared to my friend with 350GB+

So do you think that it would be a good idea to go ahead and build the system above for him? Should I be worried about system failures? Or should I just tell my dad to spend the extra $$$ and go with something safer that is brand name?

Also, is the listed Graphics Card (or GPU, or Video card whatever) enough for dual screens? (ones a 25.5 inch @ 1920x1200 whereas the other is like a 19 inch @ 1400x900 - - - Honestly I have stopped paying attention to GPU's since the 8800GTS (G92?) came out so if anyone could recommend a card that isn't going to be used for gaming and just dual screens then go ahead and recommend it

Antec 900's a gaming case. If it's for an office, get something closer to $50 that doesn't consist of giant fans and LED's.

Also, go for the E7400 CPU. It's 2.8GHz and $20 less then the 7500 (has free shipping like the 7500 as well).

Or get something brand name and make it the computer company's problem if something breaks and not yours.

That thing is a massive, massive overkill. Something like HD3450 / 8400GS with E2180/E5200 and 2GB of ram on a P31 mobo is more like it. Also you won't need an aftermarket cooler or gaming case for that.

this. especially on the case part. just get the cheapest decent looking case you can get.

way overkill, get that case out of there, plus more. for a business comp just get a cheap hp or dell and throw a cheap vid card in it if needed.

Is the new computer going to be used for any graphic design or video rendering or work?
If not you could get a comp with integrated graphics and be fine. I would also get vista 32 bit...
and the processor will be fine with the stock heatsink and fan unless you overclock it pretty high?
It's not hard to build a comp but there will usually be little issues that will arise...I, like others here love to
build computers so issues that come up are no big deal... So if you want the easiest solution...pickup an hp/dell or gateway
and if something goes wrong...bring it back to the store... good luck either way

Get a Dell Precision that suits your needs. You can't offer any warranty or service beyond what you have time for, and that's just not good enough even for small businesses.

It seems overkill because thats what he wanted... I told him you get what you pay for, really... and he said build me a 1,000 PC

I planned on disabling the lights and turning down the fans... I wanted that case because it seemed wayyy more sturdy than the $50 one

And the card is for dual monitors and high resolution pictures (need to cycle fast and load fast and edit fast etc.)

and i feel you guys on the other company thing, i'm going to build the equivalent on the dell site and see how much it costs

You WANT 4GB for Vista even if he is doing office stuff. Its like half free anyway atm.

800Mhz DDR2 is enough, no need to invest on 1066Mhz unless its same price.

A cheap coolermaster case is probably the way to go in a build like that. They're genrally very sturdy and of very good quality without looking too flashy.

I've built using a 330 before and it was a nice little case to use, decent air flor, good quality metal with no sharp bits and it had quick install drives. Great case for the cheap price.

We stopped building pcs where I work a long time ago. It wasn't worth the effort.

You're exaggerating the performance needs for an office. Vista is a separate issue, which requires 4GB of ram to work efficiently.

You'll only need a mid range C2D to load documents. Anything over 2GHz will do.

Lol @ the 9600GT. If your dad's office isn't using any demanding industry specific programs, even the low end nvidia card will do. (9400) Even BF2 will run on a 9500.

You've also got to keep in mind, most of our crashes are from ocing, or some kind of high demanding game/benchmark. If you have stable hardware, your pc is back up to the reliability of a dell, some times even better.

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that if you have the time to take normal care of these computers. There is no doubt that your dad and his employees will run into software issues later on, and will you have the time to take care of those computers.

Why? You'll have to supply support, and yes - odds are they'll need it. Also, as others have said, this is seriously fucking overkill. They're better off using that money on a Dell and get some customer support as well.

And as a last point: Antec 900 in an office enviornment, lmfao.

That seems like a gaming PC, not an office PC.

You need to distinguish between the two environments and not go with that what everyone recommends for gamers, but what an office PC should be like.

as everyone else said... go with a brand name so you get a warranty. tbh the current system, with a clean install, will load his documents just fine. but if you want some longevity, go with a major brand to get a nice comfy warranty.

For a business machine, go with a Dell Optiplex. Those are their business line of machines. They are more than powerful enough, run quiet for the office environment, and their business system warranties are much better.

We order the 3 year warranty when we buy ours. That gives us guaranteed support from their staff in the US (no India or Philippines calls) and we have parts and or parts/tech onsite the next day.

I ended up doing a Dell machine, I forget what it was called though

Customized it, turned out like 1200 and had an instant 200 off so it was basically the same machine for the same price (except the RAM on the dell is 800 not 1066)
