Some may remember I was in Hawaii in 2007 installing a copper gutter system.

Because of the suck economy they have been unable to sell it. They are working with the local school district and doing an essay contest.

IT DOES COST $101.00 TO ENTER.

The prize is a single story house on the Kona side of the big island of Hawaii.

Part of the proceeds will benefit the local school district.

This is legit, and Sherri told me that if somebody posts a link to this essay contest on their website she will give them one free week lodging in their castle.
Yes castle.

And yes, I know these people personally. Sherri runs a catering business in L.A. from the big island and my wife works for her. The inside scope is they need 6k entries to give away the house and if they don't make it there will be a 10k grand prize.

So, while I am posting a link to her site, entry is on you to do or not do and I am not encouraging it.

What I am looking for is help on the essay; I want that fucking house bad!!!

The word limit is 101 words. The themes include;
Giving to give.
Kabala ( yes I know )
A spiritual connection to the land

whoever helps me write the winning essay for me will be entitled to free stays in Hawaii anytime they want to come.
I'm looking for award winning stuff. If you post or pm me something I will pm you pictures of me at the house in Hawaii.

What I mean is that it is hard to say something meaningful in such short a limit.

Oh I know exactly what you mean.  Everytime I have to write an essay I always go massively over the word limit, even if its like 3000 words.  Then I have to cut shit out to get it under and the whole thing ends up making no sense.  I was just poking fun at Macbeths writers block over 250 words in a previous thread.

Would it be counted as income or would it be just property taxes?

Be sure to mention that "giving is it's own reward" and also something about the "gift of giving".

Good luck.

winning a house would be considered income, just like a paycheck or interest acrued.  with good enough lawyers and accountants you may find a loophole.  but yes, you're looking at potentially tens of thousands if not more in income taxes.

i'd suggest selling it to cover the taxes, but that doesn't seem to be working for the current owners.

Giving to give is like the sun going up in the sky, it's just natural.  Its no more giving, it is to care.  You are giving food to your kids not expecting anything to come back.  You care about them, you want them to prosper and go strong.  To give love is the only gift that can't be evaluated.  If that gift is not from love you have given nothing worth in your life.  Love is the only gift that can heal, enjoy, protect, reassure your loved ones.

ATG, I know your kids are the ones that you don't want to fail in life.  This essay has to show that it comes from your heart, above are just pointers that you can relate yourself with.  Start from there.  Get the help of whoever who can write properly if you think you may jeopardise that chance.  Just don't pick me!  lol

And like they say; "Break a leg!"

You have to pay property tax on it...most house raffles (at least the few that I helped do the accounting for) require you to live in the house for a specific time frame (at least a year) in order for the deed to officially be transferred.  For what it's worth, none of the 3 houses that were offered in the raffles I worked on were actually given away - in each case the amount of entries did not exceed the amount required to raffle the house so they just gave the winner a lump sum cash prize.

Kona is really a shitty place (to be brutally honest).  I was just on the Big Island for 4 days and it was really striking how poor the area is.  Granted, there are a few nice areas (mostly close to the beach and privately owned/developed by filthy rich people like Michael Dell) but you are probably looking at a house that has no underground plumbing (sceptic tanks are the norm there), probably 50/50 that it runs off propane and isn't connected to a main electricity grid...

I don't get why there would be called a raffle if they judge the essay based on content...isn't a raffle random?
