LOS ANGELES - Authorities say an El Monte man is facing federal child pornography charges after admitting on an employment application for the California Highway Patrol that he had viewed child porn on the Internet.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said Friday that a multiagency investigation was launched after Christian Hernandez made the disclosure while applying to the agency in October.

Eimiller says investigators found child pornography on a computer during a search of Hernandez's home, including sexually explicit photos of a 5-year-old girl.

Hernandez was arrested last week on state charges of suspicion of committing a lewd act with a child. On Tuesday, he was charged in federal court with possessing and manufacturing child pornography.

He is being held without bail.

iirc all law enforcement agencies ask CP related questions on the applications as well as during the polygraph exam.
