A blast from an impact big enough to cause a foot wide crater would likely knock him over if he were right next to it.Yeh, indeed, but it still wouldnt send him flying right.
Its very unlikely he would have got the sequence of impacting hand, followed by bang, followed by being knocked over - it would all have been over in practically the same instant.
