Hey, I need to ask you guys about some university stuff. I am going to UVic in september, so I am registering and all that right now but there are a few things you do differently in the west coast that i am not familiar with. The main thing i need to know about is English and the LPI. I don't know if this is just UVic, but I haven't heard of it anywhere in Ontario so maybe you guys know about it. It says I need an 86% or higher in Grade 12 English to be exempt from 1st year English. That is ok, I had an 80 but I kind of wanted to take English anyways 1st year. But then it says i need to write the LPI (Language Proficiency Index) if i don't get exempt so they can tell me which class to go in? I checked it out, and i can only write the LPI in Toronto on July 11th and it takes a month give or take a few weeks to process. This means i won't be able to register courses till AUGUST!
My question: What is this LPI business, and do i need to take it? or can i just use my grade 12 english mark as a reference point to which english i should take?
I am aware that there is little hope for lots of help here but I need to figure this out asap!
