Well........where to start.
Who knew the word "knife" could cut so deep?
Our clan (formerly the KnifeDudes) has been running server for about a month and a half now. We are a clan that chose our name to give homage to a weapon we thought was fun to use, the knife. Apparently this is a BIG No-No according to EA. Yesterday I got a nice email stating our server had been shut down since we were a "24/7 Knives Only" server. Our server title was KnifeDudes Clan 24/7 Swish Maps. Nowhere did we ever say Knives Only! In fact after a few days of getting the question "Is this a knife/pistol only server?" we changed our server message to "This is NOT a knife/pistol only server, please read the ROE at <link to EA's ROE>". We added an auto-message that clearly stated we could not and would not force the use of knives/pistols only. We would politely reply to anyone who asked the question, but it was a constant battle. Apparently many people cannot read or pay no attention to anything told to them by the obvious messages.
In any event, I checked and found that we had been reported three times to BF2RankedServers. Once they had a screenshot of our clan from the server browser view inside of the game. It had one person on it and I guess that's good enough. Another post had a picture of game-monitors.com with the search keyword being knife. There were 6 servers. 5 were illegal Knife/pistol only server and then ours. Apparently this is also enough to get you banned. I posted and clarified that our server has never and will never be a knife only server. I got a response from King Dave(director os BF2RS) and he said he found NO evidence that we were going against the ROE and we were running a good server. He commended us for actually promoting the ROE.
Now I got an email saying that EA will reset all of our stats and take our server away if we don't remove anything remotely dealing with the word "knife". It sucks yes because we have a website and such using that word.
Makes you wonder if our clan name was something dealing with Pistols............
Anyway, I am sorry it came to this, but we have fallen victim to a false stereotype. Don't let this happen to you because it ain't fun.
