making a decision on laptop/pc

I'm going to school in september and am going to need a laptop. I've been reading some of the other threads on this and see a couple different opinions. Should I get a high quality laptop or should i get a high quality pc and a decent laptop just for school for around the same price?

current pc specs:

XP home
Intel core 2 cpu 6400 @ 2.13GHz
2 gigs of ram
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO 256 MB

i've got $2,000ish to spend. What should i do, tech of bf2s?

no, i think my current monitor is fine. looks like some sick specs, and i heard lenovo was awsm for laptops, i'll check them out.

so i think i'm going with the awsm pc/decent laptop.

What do you guys think about a Lenovo SL500 lappy and what GC_panzer posted? anything to change/recommend on his build?

ps. if i were to go through newegg, how difficult is it to build the pc with all the parts? I've taken computers apart and know the parts, but is there any soddering involved or is it all just plug and screw?

Not meaning to suck cock. But panzers build is pretty much perfect. Its not difficult to put together... mabye watch a few vids on the net, read the manuals (although I never do) everything only fits into its corressponding thing (generally) so u have to be pretty dumb not to be able to figure it out.
EDIT: No soldering required to build a PC. Just a screwdriver and half a brain.

Give it off to a family member, use it as a HTPC, use it as a server.... you're not going to get much money for it, but if u are strapped for cash then sell it i guess.
