I built a computer for my family over Easter, however now that I've returned home it only appears to see 256mb of the 4Gb of RAM. And I believe it, it's slow as shit. Now it's on XP, so I can understanding it not seeing the full 4GB, but 3.75Gb missing? Ideas what it could be? I just flashed the BIOS, but nothing has improved. It's a P5QL-Pro mobo, with some kind of PC-6400 RAM.
Mr State The Obvious: Make sure all tha ram is plugged in.
Take all the RAM out and put it back in. My old MSI motherboard had a problem where 2 of the 4 RAM slots went bad and wouldn't recognize any RAM, so hopefully you don't have to deal with that.
Try every bar alone. take all others out, boot the computer. If the BIOS doesn't make any strange beeps, it works. If you found one that works, try it in every single slot. It's a lot of booting, but this way you can make sure what's broken: bars or slots.
And yeah, press them in very hard...

Just press on the RAM, even when it seems secure.
Another computer that I build went from 6GB to 12GB that way.

Yeah so I just installed Vista and it all worked fine, so I assume there was something fucked up with the install. No idea what would make it do that though.
