I am going to build a computer sometime in the next year, and I was wondering what I should do?

A) Get it soon and go Core 2 Quad/Phenom II
B) Get it in a few months(money permitting) and get i7
C) Hold off for i5

I am looking for a budget of around $1000-1400 with new monitor between 20 and 23 inch, GTX 260 or higher, 4-6 GB RAM, and either full tower or mid tower case. I am leaning toward Cooler Master 690 at the moment. I have never overclocked, but would be willing to give it a go.

Please post specs of what you think if you can.

yeah specs looks interesting, this is wut I would not sure how much techie people would agree or wut not just get a decent upgrade now if u can then couple of months from just upgrade it again if u can or not couple of months maybe like a year or 2 down the line upgrade it again. If you buy i5 or i7 ull have to spend a lot of money on it now and then not sure if u are gonna be able to upgrade down the line u know.

I was originally leaning toward AMD Phenom II, but a friend who works in IT said he has seen those die more frequently, and suggested Intel. I really like that AMD's are generally more bang for the buck, but I don't know. I will probably end up going Core 2 or Phenom II.

Phenom II hasn't even been out for half a year. Way too early to make any statement about the longevity of a chip. Either way you've got warranty.

PII gives you the best bang/buck for a quad. Especially the low end 45nm Core 2 Quads are crap. Hardly any OC headroom.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

There was a build posted in another thread that looked pretty good to me a few days ago, but I don't remember which thread/couldn't find it???

Anybody have the link to the photo?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it.

Question: I have a HDD from my current computer(duh). Is there a way for me to get things like Bf2, 2142, C&C: First Decade, MS Office from current to new computer, or do I have to buy them again? (I will eventually buy MS Office newer version, but will be strapped for cash fow a little while after buying the computer) I will probably use Windows 7 RC until then also.

I could probably put it in the new computer and just have 2 drives, but it's kind of old and is probably 5400 rpm. Would that be better, or is my above question even possible?

^Yes, if you have an external drive you could transfer the installers and install them on your new computer. (or setup the old drive as a slave and pull data off it onto your new HDD)

But you'd have to reinstall everything.  And no guarantees are made that all your programs are 100% compatible with Windows 7 RC, I'd either go Vista or wait for the official release of 7.

Those are pretty good prices, can't do it until at least mid-July, so they may go down even more.

How does this look?

I hope you can see it, I couldn't fit th whole thing on screen, except zoomed out in fullscreen.

Or should I try to get the extra $70ish for the quad.
