b) "Incredibly common sayings" is the whole point that I am contending. An idiom and turn of phrase in California may not be recognised in Alabama. Here in the South-West, certain sayings that come up in almost every single casual conversation will not be recognised several counties east; it's a dialect, a vernacular, a true 'figure of speech'. Not all sayings that you are familiar with are necessarily well known in other parts of the country. If I were to say to you mid-way through a conversation - "ow bist olle butte?" - you probably wouldn't be able to derive and respond properly without knowing the person/context or without the aid of a quick Google search. And that's one of the most obvious phrases and common phrases of speech in my home area - get my point yet?
Basically, you're lurking and trying to pick out flaws and trump me in the English forum because you somehow get off from feeling superior at something that you (wrongly perceive) me to be very prideful over. I make grammar, spelling and English mistakes all the time; I don't come here to practice my dissertation technique, thank you very much. I'm not going to pretend I've read into the Penguin Book of English Idioms, either, to gain a mastery of all the phrases from every single area and county of the English speaking world.
