I'd also like to make smartass comment #76 by saying you should've bought a PS3 instead of a standalone blu ray player. Surely a player is a player.
Blu-Ray player hasn't been purchased yet - will be buying on Wednesday.

That is a good point, I'd completely forgot. If anyone has any input on this, shoot.
Well it depends, back when blu-ray/PS3 was just released. The PS3 was by far the best value for money as blu ray players were ridiculously expensive. I dunno about now. It depends on money really. If you can get a standalone blu ray player for much cheaper than a PS3 then there's no point.
That was one of the two reasons I got a PS3

Spoiler (highlight to read):
the other one is to play games wat

Ok, my list is currently as such:

- Casino Royale
- Curse of the Golden Flower
- The Dark Knight
- Max Manus
- Pirates of the Carribean
- Iron Man

The ones left out are left out because I'm not interested in the actual movie, and the quality isn't enough to get me to buy it.

Feel free to add more
Those are all good. The only one I haven't seen in BD is Max Manus. Wait till you see Curse of the Golden Flower .

Not surprising, seeing as it's a Norwegian movie

Kmarion I really recommend you see Speed Racer on Blu Ray if you haven't all ready.  The movie is okay, but its effects and colours are truly spectacular.  Its probably my favourite HD movie out of the 50 or so I have

What about that Jet-Li film, Hero?

I remember it for its amazing visuals. That film has the best use of vibrant colours that I can remember.

I'll check it out. I think I'm close to 70 now. Sometimes Amazon has 3 for 2 deals but I haven't seen that special in awhile. I have amazon prime so shipping is cheap (if not free). Beats the crap out of brick and mortar stores.

Just going through my movie collection and I'll list a few that should be good. I'm sure a bunch of them will have already been posted.

Iron Man
Munich
Sin City
The Pianist
Batman Begins
Dark Knight
Cloverfield
American Gangster
Casino Royale

I think all of those have some great shots in them.

I have no idea if they're all available on Blu-Ray

Good call but it's not available yet on BD (could be wrong). It's directed by Zhang Yimou, the same guy who did Curse of the golden flower. Curse of the golden flower is newer and that is why it's available on BD.

Gladiator will be

I need a bigger TV. Mine's 1080p and 32" but I can't really experience the full effect of Blu-Ray on it. Not that I'm really complaining, it's still an amazing TV.

Believe it or not sometimes the big movies aren't released in DTS-HD.. so this is encouraging.

What about Red Cliff? (haven't watched it yet but hear it's good and have an HD rip I got off a friend)

I believe the original cut (as in parts 1 and 2 - not the recut Western version) of that is available on Blu-Ray import.

It's all about getting your HD films on import from China (a mate of mine gets hundreds of them, which is handy for ripping). They come out months earlier and still have English subs and they're much cheaper if you buy a batch (cuts down on shipping costs).

Have not seen it on BD but would love to. It looks hard to get a hold of.

That's probably why it's so pricey.

He gets them dirt cheap (he says, I don't really know). He always buys them in batches of 20+. I wouldn't be surprised if there's something dodgy going on somewhere, they all look official - but you know how piracy is in China.

I might as well try;

Do any of you know of any Blu-Ray players that support x264 mkv and NTFS?

There's a JVC and the LG BD370 - they support x264, but only FAT32, and are therefore limited to 4GB filesizes - which isn't even the size of most 720p rips.

The LG BD390 supports both x264 and NTFS, but isn't available in Europe (yet).

So, to make great success with a Blu Ray player that supports piracy - are there any alternatives?

Doesn't support mkv, afaik...

(I won't be streaming over the internet here, it'll be with an External HDD).

Meh, I might just go for an entry-level Samsung, and get a WDTV instead...
