So I am fairly certain my hard drive is sleeping with the fishes now but not 100% certain on that. So I come to the tech guys for assistants.

One day I decided to clean all the dust out of my computer. Everything went fine and nothing broke at all. So I plug everything back in and turn on my computer. Everything looks good BUT when the loading screen came on for windows it just sits there. Doesn't do a thing. So I turn my computer off and try again, same thing happens. Then I decide to put in my Windows Vista operating disc and to run the fix option. It doesn't work. It takes about 30 minutes for it load the disc. And I just left it at that.

My computer is custom built and less than a year old. I have had zero problems with this until now. Please guys help me out. I miss my games.

Do you have a second computer to try the drive in? If the drive boots, you might have hit something when cleaning. If it doesn't boot, stick the drive in as a secondary and run a chkdsk /r on it.

OK. So I have some old hard drives from previous computer I have kept. Could I use one of those hard drive on my computer as a primary while I use my newer one that is broken as a secondary (secondary=slave drive right?)?
Also is it possible to scratch the shit out of the disc inside the hard drive?
and to jamiet, when I put the Vista disc back in it doesn't even recognize the hard drive when I try to run the fix option. THIS SHOULD OF BEEN IN THE ORIGINAL POST>

It sounds to me like the hdd is dying.  I've gone through several hells of hdd's dying.

take it out and dont try using it until you are fully prepared to grab all your important stuff off of it.  I would put in another drive temporarily and install windows or ubuntu on it, then when you have enough room or are ready to grab your stuff, put the dying one in as secondary, and get all your stuff off of it.  If its having trouble accessing it, you might want to try recovery software.  After all of that you can put the dying one in as primary and do all you want with it to see if its actually dying, etc.  the manufactures website should have a disk utility to test the drive.  you can also used hdtune to check for errors.  If it is dying, and within warranty you can rma it for a new one.

I've had around 13 computers, and only one's hard drive failed (while trying to wipe it before physically destroying it anyway, so it didn't matter).

I'd have thought the hard drive would be pretty hard to damage if not running.
