Ok, to make it short and simple, I want to finally move into the LCD Monitor arena, and although my 17" CRT is is great shape, it literally takes up my entire desk, and on a side note, just doesn't cut it for me anymore.  The monitors main use will be of course gaming, and some light photo editing and movie watching.

What Im looking at now is a 23" LCD Monitor, although Im not set on it if there is some other size or such which offers better performance, resolution, etc.

The two models I've sorta narrowed it down too are these two
Acer X233Hbid 23" For $180
or
ASUS VH242H 23.6" for $200

Now, I know a lot of people love Samsung(and for good reason) but Im trying to keep the cost under $200 if possible.  If there's another monitor you recommend over $200, I'll still consider it if there's even to support the extra costs.

In addition, my current graphics card is a 512mb 4850, which I know can hurt me depending on the resolution, but plans are already in the works to replace it as well

Thanks for any help, know the tech section gets flooded with a stream of similar topics.

I use a 512 4850 with 1920x1200 and while it does hurt performance, I can still play most games fine at that resolution. Certainly not maxed out, but the 4850 was never meant for that kind of thing. Point is, games will be more then playable but not as pretty as possible.

Secondly, I would suggest a solid 19" instead of larger at that price. If you need real estate, fair enough, but I wouldn't want to risk getting a terrible screen out of it. TBH, I don't know much about either you linked but it's just my two cents.

I'm running the Acer as we speak, it's great for everything. Even gaming (used to have a 7950 GT) is no big deal. I'd defo recommend it.

If you watch 1080p movies, you will want a monitor like that, but if that is not the case, I'd get a better quality 22" 1680x1050 monitor.

Good To know   I only stated that as a friend also running a 4850 on a far larger monitor noticed some FPS drops and the like, but then again, the most intensive thing I play is GTA4, eh, Im already chugging along at 15fps in it, so I cant really do much worse

As for the size, 19" just wont cut it for me, 23" is my ideal size, but anything from20-24" im looking into.  I do a bunch of photo shoping(nothing professional or worth buying a specific monitor for) but the ability to have several images open at once, and in full view appeals to me greatly

Thanks for the info though

Right-o, No problem with it I should be aware of?  Or quirks even

Chances of me watching HD movies is pretty slim, rarely watch movies on my PC, 90% of the time its watching Top Gear heh, but I take it 1680x1050 is a far better resolution to look towards?  As stated earlier, 23" is ideal, but if a 22" would do me better, im all for it.

Nothing that I have noticed, thus no. It's very fast on startup, clear, crisp. And no degaussing needed.

If you're in the market for a nice 22", look at this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6824009145

I think the first model I listed earlier up on the page is the same model, just in a 23" model(and 1080 it would appear), correct me if Im wrong?

Alright, did a bit more shopping around tonight, looked into the 22"s, and it seems the 23"s are a bit of strange size, not nearly as many models in that size as there is in 22".  Anyways, I think I've narrowed it down pretty well, down to 3 anyways, heh.

Note, I don't think Im gonna consider the Acers anymore, as I've read about people having lots of issues with them, and acer tech support being garbage.

ASUS VH242H 23.6" for $200

HP L2208w 22" For $180 - I've heard lots of good things about HP monitors

Samsung 2243SWX 22" For $190 - Samsung I've also heard a ton of good news about

Thoughts?

That's because it's an LCD. They are crisp and clear and fast on startup. And no degaussing

16:9 is a shit aspect ratio for a monitor.

16:10 FTW!
