So, way back when I got my 260, there were virtually no aftermarket coolers available for it. After living with the stock for a while, it's started making noises (hooray for Nvidia quality!), so I'm looking for something to replace it.

Silence comes before cooling performance, and liquid cooling is out of the question. Any tips?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

TBH NVIDIA has nothing to do with the fan that is used on the reference cards. The cooler is made by Cooler Master, and they get the fans from some other manufacturers too.

+ Why not RMA if its making odd noises?

Anyway that TR cooler is beast and quiet when coupled with silent fan.

Why not remove the plastic shroud, unplug the fan and cable-tie a fan of your own on there.

Hell, didn't someone do that in the "Show your ghetto mods" thread?

RMAing for the cooler is just not worth the time I'd be spending with my half-dead 8800GTs. There's nothing wrong with the card other than the cooler.

And even if it's CM who make the coolers, they're still bloody cheap.

Sup3r: Thank you for reminding me about that trick, I'll look into it.

Well at least the NV stock coolers are better than AMD ones
