Did you decide to ignore my reference to the current IRA? Most people outside of Ireland only think of what the "IRA" is today. In a highly far fetched game idea like this there doesnt have to be any real comparisons to reality. It could be like the IRA from the 20's or something completely and utterly fictional. There no such organisation known as the IRA, The one you seem to be talking about it the Provisional IRA (PIRA). There is also the Continuity IRA, the Real IRA and the Original IRA (There not actually the original IRA thats just there crazy name!!) to name but a few extreme Republican groups.
At one time (1970/80's) PIRA was the most heavily armed terrorists in the world so you would'nt have to limit there weapons to solely Eastern block nations. Huge quantities of arms have been smuggled into Ireland from around the world (especially Libya) including sympathizers in the US, they even aqquired a couple of stringer missiles + launchers but were unable to operate them and converted them to mortors or so the story goes. Though they decommissioned a large part of there arsenal last year.
Id agree with $keletOr though, the PIRA are criminals who use to idea of a united Ireland as an excuse to carry out there criminal operations for purely financial gains. If you wanted to create a mod in which you play as members of that organisation it should be a mod for druglord, dopewars or gansters in which you deal drugs, knee-cap people and kidnapp peoples wifes and children.
This mod would make more sense if it was a clash between the Irish state and Iceland etc against England (cant believe I just said it would make sense if Ireland went to war with England !! ) over a flare in tension in northern Ireland or something. At least that way people could get to fight with modern weapons (such as the Styer, and the Javelin) and you would'nt be glorifying terrorism! Also the Irish armies special forces are supposed to be pretty good I hear, and they also have loads of cool kit.
