Today i was playing in Mastuur City and i was setting up some claymores to protect me while i was sniping.

Anyways i ended up crawling in front of one of my claymores and it blew up
Now i pretty sure its not supposed to do that

If the server you are playing on has Friendly Fire turned on, your claymore will kill whoever gets in front of it, including you.

This is a server setting.

One of the recent patches introduced this variable and set the default to not detonate claymores or at mines on teammates.

The server you were on must have changed the setting back to how it was for the first 8 months of bf2.

I think thats what clymores are supposed to do .. they are a proximity explosive .... I too always end up killing myself

But now a days the slack EA gave whinners about running into friendly claymores has caused more senseless uses of the proximity mines.  If they were meant to be used as all purpose explosives then why does the sniper get em?  Because they were NOT intended for all purpose explosives.  They were intended for protecting the snipers back while he is staring down his scope.  But now you find them laid all over flags.  Which I can see as being a great tactic.

The thing that hits me is that you even find them just laying around in the middle of crouds because "hey my, the sniper,  teammates can't set em off, I can get some easy kills."  All people do is make the game annoying with that.  But it is another thing that has been put into the game.  People, including myself, just have to deal with it and continue on.

Putting the clay in a crowd could get you TK's. If an enemy is by it and so is a friendly.  BOOM!

True, atleast some retribution for abusing what the game gives them.

My .02 on claymores.  I like that the new patch limits the number of claymores that a sniper can have set at one time.  But there needs to be some other features added.  Like making it so you have to be either crouched or prone to set them, and it should take a couple of seconds to do so.  Too often I see claymores being used as grenades by dropping them as they flee the enemy armed with a better CQB gun.  Also since you are limited to 2, you should be able to UN-set them and take them with you when you move to another location.
