need it for school needs. getting a gamin pc to go with it, so all this needs to do is have ms office and run at a reasonable speed with WI-FI for in class. What would you guys recommend?

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. no idea on the battery, but if all you want to do is office, the lowest spec stuff will prob be a-ok. i use one of them ee thingos for lectures occasionally, and it's totally fine.

Well I'd recommend the battery upgrade and the processor to at least the second option. You'll probably want a slightly bigger hard drive as well just in case you want to watch a movie or something on the go.

I'd take the T6570 (P8600 if you plan on ever doing something like major extractions/compressions and encoding stuff), 250GB 5400RPM drive and ditch Vista Premium for Home. 9-cell battery recommended, however, they can often be had for cheaper on Ebay.
