Imagine if you were just reading the paper, minding your own business (for some goddamn reason) and then heard that.

You would need a new pair of pants.

Eardrums, maybe.

Pretty beastly control of speed. Pass over the sound barrier at the precise moment you pass the carrier.. not a flexible time window at all.

Last October, an F-18 stopped by my FBO for fuel and to see one of his old buddies who worked in the tower.

This flyby actually set two car alarms off in the parking lot.

Later that night when he left, he used full afterburners that were so loud, that there was an article in the paper the next day to let people all around the city know what the hell made the loud ass noise.

I LOVE fighter jets, so secksy <3

Holy hell that was awesome.

I remember back at the beginning of my cadet days, in 2005, when I was on a general training type camp. We were staying at RAAF Williamtown, the home of a majority of Australia's F/A-18 Hornets. So there we were one day, doing some PT in an oval near the end of the runway, when the Hornets start doing dual take-offs from our end. One at a time they are fucking loud, but two at a time!

And then on another night, we saw them taking off the other way. This meant that by the time they had gone over our accommodation, they were already in the air. Those afterburners flames were longer than the aircraft themselves.

Heard that many times. Finnish airforce Hornets used to fly just over this house regularly.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

RAAF Tindal reporting in.

Squadron of hornets within 10km. If I don't see one or two during the week... Well, that's an odd week.

Saw some Marines the other day olololol. Running around in that woodland MARPAT stuff.

Yeh I served in Finnish Air Force base filled with F-18s. Saw enough flybys, tricks landings, takeoffs etc. to get pretty boring. In fact I have spent some time at night alone in a hangar with just me and the sexy F-18.

It is pretty cool to witness a supersonic fly-by in person. The best is when the plane flies directly overheard. You see the jet coming at you but you hear no sound. You know the jet is going at a high rate of speed by the air being compressed behind the jet and the eddies are moving violently.  The sonic boom is the climax but at the start of the fly-by is awesome to witness the speed and power of a jet fighter as well as feeling the energy of the sonic boom. It would give any physic majors a wet dream

Is that correct?
I thought it was just a supersonic flyby, doesn't matter where or when you actually go through the barrier - people on the ground get hit by the shockwave you're carrying as you pass.

you're right, the quoted text is misinformed.  the sonic boom moves along with the plane, so the pilot just keeps his foot on the gas.. it's not anything he's doing other than going fast as hell.  the part that is really sweet in the video is the way he just fucking disappears after the flyby.  he was cookin past that carrier.

you could do it as soon as you hit the carrier, but as soon as you break mach 1, that boom follows you until you slow down.
