Name the most influential albums in your life?

Simple to be honest. Remeber those albums that you'll always listen to because they made such a heartstroke effect on what you where doing at that particular time?
From any age, I am kind of an oldie in certain sense's, for instance I like the "Beatles" through to very modern bands such as "Kings of Leon" and so fourth. What I am asking is what album has had the most effect on your lifestyle? Be it I like there aspect on life or whether they be preaching "Christian Rock" its all an emotional typo. Would be interesting to see what all of the people say on BF2S as I know that we are all multi-cultured and very opinionaretd to say the least (Feel free to flame by the way)
For a start I will feel free to name some of mine. Don't worry I will be back to see what people say and give responses where they are needed, being an open minded type of person I will not insult idiotic answers as I believe it is possible! Well I like:

Massive Attack - Blue Lines
The KLF - White Room
Paul Simon - Graceland
Nina Simone
Duke Ellington
And so on.

Keane - Hopes And Fears

OK, so it's not really influential to me, but it's the closest I could come up with. The album basically reminds me of when I lost several family members in the space of a few months. I just happened to be listening to the album lots at the time and now when I hear songs from it I am reminded of those members of my family, and how they inspired/influenced me.

So I guess it's indirectly influential.

Cool, so I am not the oldest person on here with the "Pink Floyd" stuff, even Dark Side was a fantastic album But hey when my Dad was on his death bed I was listening to such artists as Basement Jaxx and so on, not that I remember that time of my life to that, more so a single track to be honest - Oleta Adams (Never Knew Love - Marshall Jefferson Mix) But hey you get idea thanks:)

KK, so people recognise the fact that they have a favourite album of all time? Could I now ask the reason why such albums are there favourites?
I'll start with Massive Attack - Karma Coma
I believe it has a line/verse that says I have nothing to give but myself and thats all I can give.
Which I would associate with an old girlfriend from time ago when I was broke. Same as Nina Simone with "My Baby Just Cares For Me" which I would associate with my dearest mother (Flame away) but hey Its an open association that I don't have a problem with so take the p i s s as much as you like it will not make a difference, at least am able to speak opennly and frankly

Hmm, I guess I should clarify that the albums I chose are not influential in a sense that I'm living my life based on what is said or meant by the music. However, they did shape my taste in music. Furthermore, and getting towards your second question, when I listen to music, I don't pay much attention to the lyrics. To me, the voice is just another instrument making melodies and harmonies and whatnot. I suppose that every now and then I'll find lyrics that mean something and I can connect with, but it's only consequential.

Anyways, why did I pick the ones I did? Well, like I mentioned briefly, they have shaped my current taste in music. Those albums I mentioned are ones that I've been "listening" to ever since I can remember, because my parents listened to them. Those albums I chose are ones that I can (and have) listen to over and over and they never get old. Plus, they're implanted so deeply and subconsciously into me that listening to them just brings about a warm, fuzzy, peaceful feeling.

Why does it give you a "warm, fuzzy, peaceful feeling"?
Does it give give people a believe in something over and beyond? Or is it something that we can all achieve? Hell everyone can paly a guitar, keyboard and so on, but what is the association between music and a particular instance?

Well, when I was a kid I used to have an 8 track of permanent Waves and listened to it until it wore out. I credit that one album for me moving away from concert violin ( 5 years lol ) to bass guitar.

The albums also kind of move backwards in time. The Wall is an intensely profound work, one of the greatest theatrical pieces ever. Aimee Mann and one of my other favorites Michael Penn are married, and it was learning that album that turned me from a mediocre guitarist ( meaning lead and rythmn six string ) into a pretty good one. I still favor the bass because it is easier to make money and I like the control I have over the music, but it is way easier to sing and play guitar than it is to sing and play bass, which vindicates my hereo status of Geddy Lee.

The old Aerosmith and Heart albums are still works I listen to. Just good raw rock and roll. Ann Wilson in her prime was so hot and they have a emotional content to their song writting that I find lacking, at least for me, in most music these days.

Also, people who are not musicians under estimate that vastly higher level of skill and effort it took to make a great record on tape, as opposed to digital, where songs are often assembled like the average dst news thread, sampled, copy pasted and slapped together.

Well the principle of playing a guitar I would imagine is kind of simplistic once someone has done it before you? I can't honestly say being a DJ I can only mix things together, but have a very good understanding of how music is written/arranged, acting as a producer of music for a number of different bands over the years I have acquired a good listening ear. You don't have to play music to appreciate good music. I can play keys to a basic standard, I am no Beethoven though! It takes a lot to be "special" at any musical instrument, I believe that I worked with the few that are other my personal experience. But hey I digress the topic at hand is the most influential albums within contributions from the kind people that would like to post a response/blog however you describe it here.
