I suck with contact lenses

I recently visited my optometrist to get my perscription updated and to try contacts for the first time. My doctor put them in for me and beside the slight irritation they looked and felt awesome.

Then she tried to show me how to take them out.

I spent a good 45 minutes trying all methods from all angles to get one contact out. I kept blinking/shifting my eyes the wrong way and it would slip. I eventually had to get the doctor to take them out, leaving my eye red and very dry. For those with contacts, how did you do it the first time? Every time I came close to touching my eye my entire face would close shut. Needless to say I saved contacts for a different date.

Took me about an hour when I was learning how to do it in the opticians. Then you get used to putting them in and taking them out over time.

It's quite easy once you've got the technique sorted.

The first time putting them in at the opticians took forever. After a I bought a 6 month pack of them, after about a week of using them I said fuck it and used my glasses. A while later I tried at it again. Takes a while, but after a few weeks of using them I got use to it. Now I couldn't live without them

The trick I learned is to make sure your finger is dry not wet when trying to put it in your eye. Otherwise, the contact will just keep sticking to your finger and not go onto your eye.

i used to take 10 minutes an eye when i first started. the first time i put them in it took me about an hour of frusturation.

now it takes me about 10 seconds an eye

I just kinda slide them to the outside of my eye and then they'll fold so I can pinch them and get them out. I'm still not that great since I rarely wear them, I can live without perfect vision

Also, irony of aimless not being able to get contacts out?

I started off with the hard/rigid contacts but never quite got used to them. Even after a couple of months they were bothersome and very uncomfortable.

I just started with some soft lenses 3 days ago. Took me about an hour to get how to put them in my eye and back out, but now I take maybe 3-4 minutes (or fewer if I get lucky lol) for each eye. It takes some time getting used to putting your finger and a foreign object so close to your eye, but I got over that fairly quickly. Can't feel them in my left eye, and can feel them only slightly in my right. Much better than rigid lenses.

ha, my first contact lenses were the hard kind. Those were a bitch to put in and take out. They hurt and dried out my eyes.

When I switched to soft lenses, it only took me a couple of seconds to put them in and take them out.

Same here...my eyes were burning like fuck the first time.

I pull my bottom eyelid down, put the contact on the other finger (right index finger for left eye, etc) and just pop it in...very easy.

Had 'em since I was 12. 5 years now. It's such a habitual thing I don't even think about it anymore.

I've only ever used soft lenses. Make sure that you always carry the small vials to store them in. There's been a few times my eyes get irritated and I needed to take them out. But they are great.

Protip: Don't ever sleep with soft lenses in unless they are specifically designed to do that (breathable I think) otherwise by the next morning they are welded to your cornea and nothing short of pliers will get them out. Yes I am talking from experience.

I had soft lenses for about a year in high school then went back to glasses ... You can get some really cool frames with glasses that make them more stylish than a pain. I got a titanium frame right now and the only thing I feel are the lenses on my face since the frame is so light.

I don't even remember how to put contacts in ... weird ...

I wouldn't go that far...I used to do that but they'd eventually soften up and be easy to take out a few hours after I woke up.

I later found out it was damaging my eyes though, so I haven't done it in probably 2 years.

She came round to mine after getting them and was about 2 maybe three minutes an eye. You guys just suck

(Although I'm sure if I needed contacts I'd be as terrible as you guys.)

Yeah, they're a bitch at first If you think about it it's really not a natural thing to try and poke yourself in the eye, never mind put something in there at the same time!

The way I do it is lift top eyelid with middle finger of left hand, pull down bottom eyelid with right hand, lens on index finger of right hand, slip it in
So much better than glasses, it's worth the initial hassle.

I would guess that girls are probably better at it. They're used to shoving stuff in/around their eyes (sexual innuendo not intended).

Same, except I stopped using them cos they kept moving around and I kept forgetting to take them out when I went to sleep. Woke up one morning and had a Spiderman moment, great vision, then released my eyes were drying out .
