Maybe so... but still I don't get what the fuss is all about with his driving...  Rally drivers do that shit on rally stages they've barely laid their eyes on. Block knows that airfield like the back of his hand. What's so special about that? I mean if it's precision driving you're looking for, check out Russ Swift. He's the man.

Dunno about that. He stated he didn't really know the course himself. Also Rally drivers have some sort of idea of how the course is, not to mention the fact that they have pace notes from the co-driver. Also Rally drivers don't do that shit on rally stages, what Block was/is doing is way different. If Block was to race the course like a proper Rally driver it would've been much faster

I'm pretty sure I heard him say he practices in that airfield every day.
As for what rally drivers do, yes they do have an idea of the track, but surely having driven on a real dirt road of several miles and turns etc once or twice isn't the same as creating your own obstacles... (not to mention the changes in the track by drivers that have gone by before etc)

Yes, what each one does is very different, but that's exactly my point. A rally driver will successfully go round a bend he barely remembers - based on a code - at full speed and then go on doing that throughout the course etc while the other does donuts round a barrel. If you're familiar with rally driving, how can you marvel at what Block does? Now I'm not saying he's a crappy driver or anything, he might even be the greatest rally driver in the world. I'm saying that what we see him doing in that video is well... not indicative. Just some practiced stunts that are frankly boring.
