1.5 beta 3 works good for me.

No more joining bug.
Can't say anything about the alt+tab bug that crashes the game when FSAA is enabled, since I haven't used it yet.

Only problem is that there are only 3 servers available at the moment.
Seems the borked beta 2 has dis-encouraged server admins to host a server for it.

Hit-reg seemed quite good with a ping of 50-70.

Prone deviation is very good.
I actually enjoyed playing IO Karkand after a year of abstinence.
Strangely, there was almost no nade spam!
Were all the people concentrating on crouching instead of going prone?
Or were they actually preferring the guns now with the better hit-reg?

Anyway, the time of 4 seconds for the prone deviation is a bit long. Might be better if reduced to ~2 seconds or something like that.
Just needs to deny that insta-prone super accuracy in the moment after you hit the ground.

The LMGs only have increased deviation for half a second. The prone delay only has a large effect on the Assault Rifles, with the Carbines and SMGs have a minor effect and LMGs and pistols almost none.

If you have half a second to spare proning is still a good idea, otherwise crouching makes you much more accurate than most people realize.

I am almost never prone for 4 seconds. I find its a great way to get a snipers bullet through the cranium. Even at long range, I'll get up and move between shots, with this delay it basically makes prone useless for anything except hiding behind walls from tanks.

I think the prone deviation is stupid, obviously makes prone pointless unless you are camping. In 1.41 I would say that sniper and medic are the most powerful classes but now sniper has even more of an advantage, like I said on EA forums it's more predictable because you know hardly anyone is going to drop prone

It is really, at least in the way most people do it; insta-prone with G36E/LMG, stay still into you die/kill the enemy...anyone half-decent will take you out, but it seems this is all most 'inf-only' players, on public servers anyway.

No because noobs went prone in front of you, and decent players stood and crouched when firing, now everyone will be standing or crouched as there is no point of going prone if you basically can't shoot- more predictable

I'm in favour of the prone delay.  One of the more frustrating parts of BF2 is running into a guy and seeing him headshot you while hes still visibly rolling around on the ground.  Sorry, but if you're upside down and waving your arms around theres just no way you should be able to aim acurately.

Aside, one good way to mitigate dolphin diving would have been to give a 2-bar health hit to anyone who lands in the ground while prone - would simulate the effect of falling from a height onto your stomach, mags/grenades breaking your ribs etc.

That's the point, LMGs are supposed to give covering fire, it's not a weapon that you should be able to run around with and instant prone getting mass rego on someone's feet and kill them. If you want to use an LMG sit in a corner or wait inside a hole until someone comes, it does my fucking head in on inf that I can't have a good game because EVERYONE who I kill can't stay on a rifle and instead spawns with a PKM and just prone sprays.

Battlefield 2 v1.50 Status Update
In a thread on the EA UK Forums, DICE Associate Producer, Barrie Tingle posted some additional information on the release of the Battlefield 2 v1.50 final patch.

Hey guys
I have been out of the office (although it doesnt mean I stopped working on BF2 1.50) for the last two weeks on semester. However... Emil hasn't and has been hard at work on the update after your feedback. So here is where we are at; there hasn't been any MAJOR issues in the Beta 3 that we have had reports of.

So whats changed since the Beta 3 started?
The screens below will help explain.

  • Black cross hair on the TV guided missiles
  • Widescreen FoV on widescreen resolutions


When I get back into the office next week there will be some last minute checks (no more fixes (unless something is broken that I didnt expect) or changes) and all being well the update 1.50 will be finalised and released officially.

Thanks for your feedback during the Beta phases. Its all gone a long way to make this one of the biggest changelogs that Battlefield 2 has had since launch.

I hope the hit detection is better for buggies now. Its annoying when you fire a rocket at a buggy, it goes straight through and you end up on the 6 O'clock news for a hit'n'run with your favourite pair of undies stuck to his radiator.

Also, TVing on Op Clean Sweep is now as bad as TVing on Dragon pre 1.5?
