9 months ago I bought a nice DVD-drive, the Samsung WriteMaster SH-S223F, and today it stopped "seeing" my DVDs I put into it. I was watching a movie and I paused that movie for a few hours. Then I pressed the play button again and gave me an error that said that there wasn't anything in the drive. So I checked windows explorer and indeed there was nothing in it. I tried multiple DVDs that had worked properly the last few days and he doesn't recognised them either. What can I do to make sure it has something to do with my drive so I can rma it? Or what can I do to make it possibly work again?

Cheers for any help.

Try uninstalling it under device manager maybe? It may be dead or the drivers may be screwed up.

Quick question, have you rebooted? Sometimes drives do that, and a reboot fixes it.
Yep. Didn't help anything.

I'll try what you guys said in the afternoon, have to work right now.

Bios recognised it as a connected device.

I put it into an other computer and changed the e-sata and power cable, that didn't help either. That's when I thought it was broken and I requested a rma.

Put a CD in the drive.  If the drive functions fine with a CD, but not a DVD, then you definitely have drive failure.  The lasers used to read a CD and DVD are different, so this makes a good test of overall drive functionality.

The other pc is now broken. It says that an overclock has failed, but we never overclocked. Also, windows and bios just recognise 2 out of 4GB ram. That means that one of the 2 ram sticks is broken, and the one that is broken is behind my cpu-cooler, which I don't know how to take it off. So my brother, who's the owner of that pc, is very pleased with me testing my broken DVD-player on his pc.

And the RMA department want me to sent the DVD-player in his original box, which they never gave me since they build the pc for me. So I propably wont get any RMA either.
